gifts for the bridal party?

Looking for some ideas of what to get as gifts for the bridal party... what did you give your bridal party?  What have you been given when/if you were in a wedding?  How much did you spend per person?

My favorite gift was handmade by the bride it was a necklace with a butterfly pendant. This probably cost between $5 and $10 to make, but maybe 3 or 4 hours of work. So, it meant a lot to me!

I gave sterling silver necklaces to my girls because I did not have a lot of money to spend 20 years ago. They were $20 gifts. I was only just 19 when we got married. I also did not have a lot of time. I planned my wedding in 2 WEEKS!

I think the gift should reflect your relationship. Showing them how grateful you are is a gift. Not being a bridezilla a bigger gift. I would generally say a $20 to $25 dollar gift for the MoH and a $15 to $20 for a BM would be appropriate. You may have a much larger budget.

As a MOH I spent 3K on my BFF's wedding shower.I had the money at the time and I wanted to give back to that family. When I was growing up I was in a horrible situation and they helped me and her father took care of me so often and paid for various activities that this was my way of giving back. I bought my dress and my shoes. She gave me a stained glass ornament. Again, it had to do with how grateful she was. A small token gift made me very happy. My kids were also in her wedding and I paid for their tux rental and flower girl dresses, one for the rehearsal and one for the event.

I'm still thinking about what to get my girls but I can tell you what I've gotten as a BM! For my one friend's wedding, she got us all of our jewelry for the wedding, our shoes, a cute little clutch purse, and a picture frame. I thought those were all great gifts. My other friend did jewelry, pictures, and a jar of "happy thoughts" where she wrote down a bunch of fun memories on pieces of paper and put them in a mason jar (super cute idea). I think it's nice to do something useful and something that shows how much they mean to you!

I think a great gift would be something that represnts the girl.

An engraved bookmark for the one who loves to read $10-$30

A new charm for her pandora bracelet for the fashonista $30+

Movie Theatre tickets or DVD and microwave popcorn for the movie buff $10+

Gift Cert for Sephora for or other favorite store

What about a Girl's Day at the salon? Nails, Pedi? that sort of thing? We go to the Beauty Academy for our girl's day it is just as lovely and really inexpensive because it is a student.

What about writing a a few momories down in a memory book and adding some photos of you guys together. This is both thoughtful and a real treasure she will want to look back on.

For the person who always coos over animals when she sees them in those sad commercials how about a gift made in her name to a shleter in her area?

Hope that helps!!!

I was only ever in one wedding as a BM and all I remember was the jewelry! There could've been other things; I just don't remember them since it was a long time ago!

For my BMs, I made them earrings, bought them a necklace, gave them each a $25 gift card to a store that each of them personally liked (each was different), and I gave them coconut lotion, body spray, and a candle to bring in the beach theme, and a small bottle of sweet white wine :)

For our GM, my groom had the great idea of getting them all steak packages from Omaha Steaks. They all got a nice bottle of red wine also! They loved them!!!

We really wanted to thank them with special gifts, so we ended up spending about $100 each; but we only felt it was right since they spoiled us so much with all the wedding planning, gifts throughout, buying dresses and tuxes, and everything else!! They were great to us, so we wanted to give them great gifts :)

I think as a BM I have mostly just gotten jewelry. Once I got a FANTASTIC jewelry box with it and it was engraved with my first name.

For my girls:

*Their shoes for the wedding (I knew I wanted them in gold glitter heels...and none of them would probably ever wear them again, so I bought them)

*Earrings for the wedding

*Tanks for getting ready

*Nail Polish/nail files/lotions/make up items for the wedding day

*And I treated them all to a huge breakfast the day of

I did personalized throw pillows (from cafepress.com) those came out to $15 each since I bought 6 of them...one for me too of course!! lol. I also paid for their hair and makeup at the wedding ($70 each), cocktail rings ($5 each), and then one personalized thing each...a book for one of them, a sweater for another, a lotion for another, and a hat for another basically something I knew they would like. We spent a lot on our gifts but that is because they did a lot for us, and it was an honor to have them in bridal party! It's all up to you! I love what kzces says, a "jar of memories" that sounds awesome!!!

i have been given a compact mirror ...which i never use.

gifts i would recommend for girls:

charm bracelet with 1-2 charms...then for bday and christmas gifts in the future you can add to that bracelet as milestones are made.

bangle.  necklaces dont always look good with bridesmaids dresses, but earrings and a bangle always do.

earrings.

clutch.  etsy has a large selcetion of clutchs and everyone could have clutch with the wedding colors in a different pattern or style of clutch.

makeup, nail polish, and shoes are always great too.

as for the amount you spend on them...if you are having them spend 200 or more on the bridesmaid dresses i would spend at least 50 but would recommend 1/4 the cost of the dress as the minimum.  what about trying to give a gift equal to 1/2 the cost of the dress.  also take into consideration the cost of the dress the girls buy vs the tux that most weddings have the men rent.  in most cases the dress costs more.  if they are paying more to be in the wedding they should also have a little more expensive gift.

some people give gifts the day of the wedding.  others give the gifts during the rehearsal dinner.  which ever you do...take into consideration your situation.  if you have a bridal suite for the day to get ready and pass out gifts the day of the wedding, then your girls have to be able to get back into the suite to get their gifts before the room is cleaned and given to someone else.  wouldnt want to buy gifts only for them to end up in lost and found or in someone elses pocket.

I always like the necklace idea, because they would be able to wear it for the wedding and then anytime they like after that. -- I actually found a great deal on etsy and bought a package of 6 for so and so. (they were all different prices, can't really remember how much)

Great suggestions ladies.  Very helpful.

Gifts I have received:

I have only ever been in one wedding and I received a pair of shoes.  The bride said she had a hard time choosing one thing for everyone because each of us had such different personalities.  So instead, she bought us all shoes that matched our personality.

Gifts I am giving to my ladies:

I got my ladies clutches to go with their dress and put them in a reusable bag.  I think I may do the "happy thoughts" idea as well that someone suggested in an earlier post here.

Gifts we are giving to the gents:

FI wants to give the guys mugs, steins, or coffee cups with their name on them.  I think that's all we will be doing for the guys.

I probably went a little overboard for my girls, because I felt guilty that they all traveled for me for 2 showers, bachelorette party and the wedding weekend. I gave them personalized totes from theknot.com with their names on them, inside the totes were personalized jewelry boxes, also from theknot.com and inside the jewelry boxes were the necklaces I wanted each of them to wear.

However, I went with theknot.com because of a super sale they were having, I think I spent $10-12 apiece on the bags, $10 on the jewelry boxes and maybe $10 on the necklaces that I made myself. I agonized over the gifts for a long time before I found something I liked and that was in my price range - so I encourage waiting and bargain shopping!!

I probably went a photo 3439352-1

I probably went a photo 3439352-2

In the various weddings I've been in, I've received similar tote bags or makeup bags, earrings, lipgloss, and a little kit for the day of with hand sanitizer, tissues, and aspirin. One bride paid for each of us to get our makeup done and we each got to pick out one item that was used on us that day. I got a lipstick for touch ups later. Hope this helps!!
