Help...I need to find two different kinds of songs

My father is an alcoholic and I've never been able to trust him to show up to anything important sober. So my little brother who will be 18 is walking me down the aisle and I want to dance with him. I've been having difficulty finding a good song for us. The other song I need is for my dad and I, cuz even though he is not walking me he is still my dad and hopefully he will still be there for me. But I don't want the typical mushy father daughter song, I have never really been a daddy's girl and I don't want to pretend I am.

I hope everything works out for you the way you want it!

Here is a link to a past thread about 'non-sappy' father daughter songs. There are only a few suggestions, but check it out: http://www.projectwedding.com/post/list/suggestions-non-sappy-father-daughter-dance-songs

As for brother songs, I'll come back if I can think of any!

My suggestion is to choose something that means something to you guys. Did you always watch a certain show together? Play a certain game as kids, etc? That would help possibly thinking of a song!!

What kind of music do you like?

Country? Rock?  POP? 1980's, 1960's? etc..... What bands so you like?

to dance with your father have you thought about a song with no words just the music?

vitamin string Quartet does music without the words. i think you can find them on you tube.

Do you and your brother have a type of music or a favorite song that you like to listen to?  That could work for your for dance with him.

As for your father, I like zeuster's idea of a song with no words that you and your father could dance to.

Thanks everyone! :) I like mostly country but as for my brother, he has a weird taste in music. He likes the stuff that most people haven't even heard of. Lol. I've been trying to find some 80's music because that's what we grew up on because of our mom. I appreciate all the help. Thank you all so much.

Are there any songs you and your brother both like, or have sung along to in the past? (I'm thinking that my brother and I are prone to playing air guitar and jamming out to various songs while we drive, so if it were me, I would choose one of them that would be more fun and have the DJ announce that it's always had meaning for us).

I also wouldn't worry if you happen to like one that may be considered a 'love' song...I think guests will understand it's a brother/sister love..My SIL was worried about that at her recent wedding, she danced to a country song with her bro and it was a love song but with them it was just a cute sibling tribute. HTH!

I think that will be a cool and fun idea is you and your brother danced off of something for the 80's. Maybe even you guys could make up a fun routine like many brides and grooms are doing these days instead of doing a typical dance. That would be really fun! I am sorry to hear about your dad being an alcoholic. My mom was an alcoholic and unfortunately she lost her battle with it in April of 2011 and was not able to attend my wedding. I would have given anything for her to be there and she wanted to very badly! So I think it is beautiful that despite the strained relationship, you want to include your father. I agree with the other ladies, I would do an instrumental song if you haven't decided on a song yet.  Let us know when you make your final decision!
