Maria is like the Ann Landers of the PW forum! Those look really expensive! You are a brave girl to DIY these. They would probably be a fortune to mail as well because of the weight. I can't wait to see what Dirty says....................she has answers to everything!

first off---> how much did you and alex budget for invites?? this one is at least $10 per invite - with the fabric, the pearl deets, it's not paper - it looks heavy like 'cardboard' that has batting and is wrapped with satin...

and dont forget the postage

start everything off with the budget - then see what you can afford - then go from there...

let's just say this is $10 x how many invites??  150??  that's $1500 in invites alone??

if youre cashed up - go for it - but i'd rather spend $$$ on my honeymoon...

just a thought

Can you search for something similar in looks but not as weighty? They are really beautiful I agree. The fabric and pearls are the most expensive part. Maybe something that is embossed with a pattern that looks 3D but isn't?

Also I wonder if you could find out how much it would cost to make one invitation yourself if you purchase all the supplies. Maybe it's not even cheaper to make it yourself?

$800 for the invites only or including postage??

i'm not trying to sound like the mommy of the bunch here - but think think think long and hard before you part with your hard-earned money...on something frivolous... they are gorgeous invites - but well... i'm starting to sound like a broken record so n/m..

if you do these - youre gonna need heavy heavy paper to add the batting and the satin to - so it's not flimsy and cheap looking...then the paper itself for the invite - that just cant be done at home on cheap paper either kwim??

then for "presentation" you cant just mail them in a normal manila envelope - (tacky! manila envelope and lovely invite - doesnt match) these i'd expect - should go in a box of some sort (more $$$)

i think what we're trying to say....is that this would be a HUGE EXPENSIVE undertaking....so just be prepared....and wouldn't that money be best put to use elsewhere??  upgraded menu?  longer open bar?  string quartet for ceremony?

okay...climbing off soapbox now....

Good point, forgot about the mailer box. I'm with Dirty and jackie, everyone is going to keep the invitation only for a while because they are so beautiful but then they'll have to trash them eventually. Maybe just do only one as a keepsake for yourself and DIY it? One of my friends took her regular invitation and sort of scrapbooked it into something similar to what you posted (like an album but with no pages inside). Then you can have a beautiful one for yourself (or your family too) but save all the money of sending it to people who probably would not appreciate it as much as you. Best of both worlds.

it's cool - we all once had grandiose ideas - i wanted to arrive at my reception in a heli - until found out that fh is scard of heights AND there's no proper helipad at our venue - and well, the idea was just "too much" over the topness! hahaha

if it's one thing i've learned in this whoel process it's this: keep things simple - not "plain" but simple.  the less steps it takes you to get from point a to point b - you'll thank yourself later!!

Why not use the invitation you fell in love with as your inspiration.  You could DIY something inspired from the expensive design.  Think, "simplify."  Using a nice cardstock in place of the wrapped and batted one will help in the $$$ department.  Also, instead of covering it with pearls, use A pearl accent.  You'll still get a pretty invitation while keeping your budget low allowing you to splurge on other things.

I'm not creative, but being the pearl loving girl that I am I found some pearl "stickers" in the scrapbooking stuff at Hobby Lobby...you can use those! They are like 2.50 for a pack of 30ish. I used them on my one set of I DO LETTERS in my bio
