Help PLEASE!!

Okay so my friend is getting married, IN A MONTH! Literally trying to get everything together in a month b/c her fiance in leaving for Iraq and it was kinda a last minute plan.....so what i need from you ladies is what do you think are the things that she MUST have for the wedding other than the basics like dress, flowers, invites and the palce, etc? We want to surprise her with a bridal shower since she thinks she wont be able to do anything that she would normally get to do and we are trying to help her do as much as possible so she wont feel like she missed out on anything ya know? So any ideas please help! thanks in advance!

Photography?

As a suggestion for [possibly] inexpensive or very well priced photography for service members leaving for Iraq, check out Oplove.org and you can find photographers that volunteer their services for active military members.  I'm a member and would do it for free myself if I was available for the date.  It's an idea!

@future - do you know what type of theme you are going to have for the wedding or colors?

aww thats a great idea i had no idea they did that, they found the place for the ceremony/reception already and they are getting alot of stuff cheaper or free since he is in the military. And you are so sweet!

the colors are red and black. no real theme. i did those colors for my wedding so i am trying to give her everything that i found for my wedding like samples and just extra diy stuff i still have to give her some ideas of what she likes. its kinda like she is going through the i like everything time and wanst to do everything so we are trying to narrow it down to a certain "look" she wants and go from there so we can do as much as possible....

That's a great idea future!  And sure to help her out by "sharing" what you used. ;o) Definitely check out Oplove as I'm betting someone will work with you guys to get that covered photographically.  Will it be in St. Louis?  If so, I'll check around with my photographer network, too.

Absolute must haves?  An Officiant is the only other thing I can think of other than what you mentioned.  Everything else I think is obviously desirable, but can be put one the back burner if it's a time or budget issue.  I really think setting up some type of photography would be good, because I wouldn't want them to regret not having pics of their special day :)  The volunteer service that Doolittle suggested sounds awesome, or you could ask around and see if you could find a student or really good amateur to do it!

If she's having bridesmaids, they probably won't have time to order a dress, so i'd do off the rack somewhere or buy different dresses that are similar shades and fit the theme (I personally think this always looks really cool).  See if you can get the event catered at a military discount, or for deeper savings, do a self-catered or pot-luck style reception.  Renting speakers and using an iPod will save having to get a DJ or band.  Cake, transportation, hair, and makeup are the only other things that I can think of.  Cake could be DIYed.  Transportation I don't think is really that important anyway, but it depends on the person's preference.  If it's really important to them you could ask around your network of friends and see if anyone would be willing to let them borrow their classic car or something like that.  This is a pretty comprehensive list, so like I said before, none of it is really "necessary", it will just depend on what is important to them regarding what they don't want to give up.  Good luck with everything!  I hope all is smooth sailing for your friend and her husband-to-be! :)

this are some great ideas....i told her to do some disposable cameras on the tables plus have someone in her family take pictures for her or that i would if she wanted since i remember looking through millions of poses from my wedding plus have pictures taken at our wedding also. i like that idea for the dj i never thought of that, but they want a dj but i will mention it to her so that would save her some money. i told her that she needs to either have everyone get together to pick out dresses because she wont be able to order any. There are three bm's including me so i have been looking but i like the idea of everyone having different dresses too. Now she is having the ceremony and reception in the same place which is at this bbq/smoke house place, her family knows the owners so they are renting out the entire place for free they just have to pay for food. i told her she should kinda try to use that as her theme in a way because the food will be bbq style food she should do it western/country style plus we live in texas so it would be a fun laid back wedding. Plus she wont have to worry about all the frills of a fancier wedding. Maybe do some linen or cotton style dresses for the girls and just make everything more simple. what do you think or do you ladies have any ideas on how to make this cute and non-tacky? i know i have seen ideas about this before.....

just an update for all teh ladies who were so sweet an helpful.......

my friend ended up getting married when she went to get her mariage licence but she is still having a reception and now she can kinda do more of the things she wanted since she doesnt really have to plan for a ceremony. she really is happy that they ended up doing it that way because it was spur of the moment and it was their moment together to be just about them <3
