Help Please: Orlando Wedding/Reception Venue

UPDATE: I am getting married in 3 weeks and everything is squared away! :)

I posted this originally on the main forums, but thought you all might be able to help.

I don't know where to start other than I hate drama and FI's family is sure causing a lot.  Anyway, his family is giving him grief about not inviting his aunt and uncle who he is not close to and his sister (my BM) is whining about not being able to invite her boyfriend.  Mind you...we are having 35 people, are paying for it ourselves and the max our private room can hold is 37, which includes FI and myself.  So...we have NO room and we can't keep adding people.  Plus the only people we are inviting either are single, are engaged, or are married.  No one is bringing a date because everyone will know at least one person there.  Believe me, I wish I had the budget to invite more people...but since we are paying for it ourselves and are very strapped for cash it is difficult. I know a lot of you girls are in the same boat.

FI comes to me tonight and told me he is willing to give up three seats of his very close friends in order to accommodate the above.  This angered me to no end and said that is not fair, if your family want you to invite more people they need to start chipping in to help and find another venue.  We have already put down a deposit for the ceremony and a cc to hold for the reception.  I've emailed the hotel coordinator several times re: my situation and if she has options for me with no reply yet.

I have 6 months until the wedding and I'm thinking I might need a backup plan. If I can find a cheaper venue that holds more people then I'm all for it.  So if anyone knows of a place for 40-50 people that is very inexpensive...please let me know!  Right now, we are having the reception in the hotel restaurant, so there is no rental fee. And it is $25 pp.  I really don't want to move anything at this point, but who knows what will happen.  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks ladies!!!

Ok, let's start doing some checking around! Do you have a theme? What area of Orlando would you like to stay in?

I'm pretty open, right now our wedding is planned for the Omni Championsgate and they have the space, but their minimum spending req is $2k for the room which we can't meet because we don't have the budget for it.

We don't have a theme and would open to something outdoors.  I've already checked into all the main gardens in the Orlando area, also Paradise Cove and several B&B's.

Maybe check out the Polynesian Resort at Disney. You could try to find somewhere simple to have your actual ceremony on the property then go to Ohana's for dinner. http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/resorts/polynesian-resort/dining/ohanas/  It's super yummy and all you can eat. It's about $25 per person but includes all of your food and non-alcoholic drinks. They may be able to give you a discount since you'll have a large group. After that, head on over to Downtown Disney for dancing!

Take a look at this place - it's called the Oak Plantation and is in Kissimmee. It looks like they have a lawn area that slopes down to a large lake with a fountain. That migh make for a pretty backdrop! There's an inn http://www.theinnatoakplantation.com/ and also a large resort http://www.afvclub.com/main.taf?erube_fh=search&search.submit.GetResort=1&search.resortid=4070&search.invType=3&month=04&year=2010

Suites are available at only $59/night if you or your guests are interested in staying the night. There's not a restuarant onsite, but there is room to host your receptiong. YOu can their wedding person direct at 407-518-8180.

What about here? You can host your reception at Wolfgang Puck's restaurant and it says that packages start at only $15/person. http://www.wolfgangpuckorlando.com/catering.html

Found another neat place! Not sure what pricing is for weddings, but you could have ceremony and reception here. Room rates were only $99/night and include wine at check in and complimentary breakfasts. http://www.orlandohistoricinn.com/

i found another venue that might be worth giving a shot also: casa feliz. it's in winter park and has a small garden room you could rent. the website says it seats up to 35, but also has 75 mahogany versailles chairs included in the rental for the room. so maybe you could try calling them and see how many people they could accommodate?

And Beth, no no one is in the military in my family.

Thank you sooooo much...this gives me food for thought!

also Beth, sadly I can't afford a Disney wedding.  They say their "packages" only cost $5k, but that is for 20 people only including us.  Not including reception/dinner or additional video/floral/photos.  When I priced out everything we were pushing $10k.  And the guy I spoke with says we can't have a reception at disney if we are not having a disney wedding, so anywhere on disney property is out.  :(

@ starsong... that's not entirely true, you can have a unofficial ceremony at Disney without having the ceremony there. I've been to a few. You simply make a reservation for a certain number, I think the largest one I went to was around 50?, and then have it. Most of the places will let you bring in your own cake if you want or you can have Disney make a cake.
