Honeymoon on Layaway? is there such a thing?

My friends gave us a voucher for an early gift for a Mexican cruise. We were going to use it for our honeymoon! So I called the agency and we can't use the voucher til 2010!! WTF!

So anway, now we're kinda SOL about our HM! And we haven't really put any $$ aside, because we figured we already had one...and now I'm sad. I know that we could have it paid off before the wedding, but not just in one lump sum, kwim? So my mom said that if we booked through a travel agent we could put down a deposit and just sort of make payments towards it? Is this true? Can you really do that? Sorry but in the world of Travelocity and Orbitz the trusty travel agent has become obsolete in my mind! Please someone tell me there is truth to this!!!

hhhmmmm i've always used the same travel agent... i suppose it depends on which travel wholesaler they get the package from??

the balance is due 30 days prior - there's no real "layaway plan" in the retail store sense - it's up to you to pay monthly or just give them one lump sum at minus 30 days out, kwim??

dont forget to buy travel insurance =)

You can register for your honeymoon :) I did and I'm hoping people give us money so we can go!

We booked our honeymon through a travel agent.  We had to pay a $300 down payment at the time of booking, to lock in our flights, and then we were able to pay here and there throughout the year.  We had to have our final payment in 45 days from our departure date.  Its definitely worth looking into.

i've heard of people getting a zero percent credit card-- you can carry a balance for a year without finance charges...

Ahh! I'm so excited! We're going on a HM! Smoores--we are registered with Travelers Joy, but I haven't added anything to it, it works just like as if they were giving you cash so I knew it wasn't going to pay for the flight and accomodations there...unless of course we booked after the wedding. Our families are old fashioned and I doubt we'll get barely enough for an excursion, let alone airfare lol!

Yes, we did the registry through Sandals and we can make payments at any time.  Good luck.  I'm confused by the year though unless this is an old post.  Nevermind I see that it's an old post.
