Honeymoon research

Has anyone booked their hotel under $3000? also, did you do an all inclusive trip?

Has any one used travelzoo, living social or groupon to add to their honeymoon as well?

Curious to know your answers ladies!

Good luck with that. We budgeted our honeymoon to be $5000 and that is on the cheaper end of honeymoons. We're going to St. Lucia for 9 days, all-inclusive, Sandals resort, hotel room, flights, everything included for $4,500.

You should increase you budget a little and use a travel agent. And don't use GroupOn or any of those "deal" sites. You WILL get ripped off in the end and not get the honeymoon you are wanting.

A travel agent will stick to your budget and get you everything you want and do all of the work for you! All you have to do is tell them what you want. We used LibertyTravel.com. We're paying them in a payment plan way too (that we decided too).

We went to Sandals in St. Lucia and loved it, we spent $4000 and it was all inclusive except the soveniers. You might be able to do $3000 in the states but not many all inclusives here.

If you do your research, I wouldn't rule out a deal site like Living Social or Groupon. There are people that have had good experiences with deal sites and those trips. It's a great way to save money, but riskier. Read all the fine print!! Read reviews, call the place, etc, everything you can look into, do it before you book it. lol.

We did a cruise to Mexico (it was our first cruise) probably ended up being $2000 total for the week. We set up a Carnival registry, so all of our alcohol was paid for! hehe. We chose not to do many excursions, just relax and enjoy each other.

we did sandals resort in antigua.

i know personally someone who booked a log cabin in pigeon forge tn online and they used groupon to get some coupons for places to eat and stuff like that while they were there.  using the coupon type sites would be easier if you were staying in a hotel or rental than at an all inclusive resort, even if the resort is in the usa.

curious where you are thiniking of traveling to and what time of year?  i could make some recomendations for anyone looking to stay in the southern usa.

asheville/hendersonville nc is a great area.  tons to see and do.  downtown hendersonville has great antiqueing and is still one of the kind of downtown areas you can park in and not look for hours for a space or worry about tickets.  biltomore, lake lure, chimney rock, tons of b&bs, vineyards... the list goes on.

savannah ga.  know someone who lives there and they say the springtime is sooooo beautiful.  i live in greenville sc and spring here is great.  this person use to live in greenville and they say savannah out does greenville.  hard to believe.  on my bucket list to see that town in the spring.

pigeon forge/gatlinburg tn.  great year round.  tons to see and do.

dalton ga/chattenooga tn area.  cross the state line and you are in one or the other.  great area.  tons to see and do.  dinner mystery theater, dinner boat tours of the chattooga river, zoo, aquarium (huge), outlet malls....

myrtle beach sc.  voted one of the best beaches in the usa.  sand beach.  tons to see and do.  some great restaurants.  if you are ever planning on a trip here pls private message me and i will give you the scoop on the places that are a MUST.

FI and I will be spending 5 nights in the Cancun area for about $2100 (late October) including airfare from San Francisco.  We are doing 2 nights in Isla Mujeres and 3 nights in an all-inclusive resort in the Hotel Zone.  We found the flight and Cancun hotel on CheapCaribbean.com (through TravelZoo as one of their Top 20 deals) and the IM hotel on Hotwire.  This was after a looooot of research on TripAdvisor, Yelp (the forums; there are no reviews for Mexico), or the usual hotel booking sites.  For Isla Mujeres, there were a lot of repeat visitors who posted a lot of information in the TripAdvisor forums.  For the Hotwire hotel, I used the strategy on BetterBidding.com I was able to deduce that one of the unnamed hotel deals on Hotwire was the #1 TripAdvisor rated hotel.  I ended up saving about $40 per night.

We were inspired to go to IM in the first place because of a LivingSocial deal for an all-inclusive there.  After some research, we realized that that particular leg of the trip might be more fun without springing the all-inclusive, and that the 4 nights included in the deal might be too long when combined with our stay in Cancun.  The hotel had great reviews, as do a lot of the LivingSocial Escapes or Groupon Getaways, but make sure you map out where the hotel is and make sure that it works out logistically with the other amenities you want, whether you want a beachfront property or something close to the city center or cheap public transit.  A lot of times the address listed on the deal site will be their booking office rather than the actual property.  Pretty much any travel site (Expedia, Travelocity, etc.) will be able to map the property accurately.

Also, if you do plan for the Caribbean or pretty much anywhere in the tropics, make sure you are aware of seasonal hazards like hurricanes/tropical storms and sea lice.

Hi all! New to the forum, I was doing this very research last night and am torn between Sandals and Couples resorts. Depending on the time of year and length of time, it did seem $3000 would be cutting it close. We actually decided to do a Honeymoon Registry to cut the cost for us.
