Hospital Bag

Ok, I know DMN just posted a thread about taking her boppy and breast pump........but what else is good to have with you?  I've seen a million lists and they all seem to express different things as important.  What is actually necessary though? haha  I just realized I should get mine together here soon and wasn't sure what was really important and what falls into the "it was nice having it but not a necessity" category.

To be honest the only thing I used from my bag was going home outfits for baby and me. The hospital provided soaps toothbrush deodorant diapers pads underwear ... I figured I'm paying for all this stuff I might as well use it but I think every hospital provides different things.

I do have to say I'm glad I didn't purchase any gowns to wear at the hospital. I ended up going through 4 gowns in my two day stay.

My Sister always suggested to women, a robe, slippers, and your own pillow.

My must haves (in no particular order):

Laptop
cell phone/laptop charger
Yoga Pants
nursing tanks
robe (I lived in my robe)
slippers
camera
chapstick!!
comb
snacks (the cafeteria in our hospital was not 24/7)

Baby:
 I
didn't really need alot as they provide most everything you need for your new LO
I did find myself using:

Socks
onesies
muslin swaddles
hats
car seat (of course)

Hope that helps :)

I can't believe how close you are! :-D

I have seen a million lists, too. I have consistently seen/heard that snacks are a must-have (just in case!)

Whatever you decide to put in your bag, I read a useful tip to write out a list of can't-pack-till-the-last-minute items and put it on top of your bag. Then you can throw those items in at the end. Toothbrush, phone/camera charger, list of people to call, etc.

I think I would die without chapstick.

I did have hubby go home and bring snacks. I seemed to be hungry all the time and the hospital food wasn't great

I'm BIG on packing light.  I did follow a few of lists but then I kept re-assessing it and taking things out.  In the end, we just have one carry-on sized roller luggage for all three of us (me, DH and baby), including the boppy.

I'm totally panicking about this hospital bag...I'm 6 weeks away and I feel like I should have this thing set to go!   Ugh, slacker.  I think I'm just going to by new stuff for it...I don't want to go without the stuff until then, and I don't want to have to pack at the last minute either!

I didn't bring a breastpump, the hospital let me use theirs while I was there. Don't bring your own gown or sexy pjs. You will bleed and leak fluids a lot. I wore tanks and yoga pants and the hospital gown for 1.5 days. It's much easier for feeding and for the nurses to examine you down there every 4 hours.  Lanolin would be good for sore nipples. We brought a portable little box fan in the delivery room. Really, you don't need much. A couple onesies for LO. First one I put mine in she peed and leaked all over it. :)

Videocamera. i wish we brought mine and took more videos when she was younger.  Definitely chapstick. Definitely your own pillow.
