Hospital Bag: Boppy and breast pump?

I'm just about finished packing our hospital bag just in case (we're exactly one month away from EDD!).  Just wondering, do I need to bring a Boppy pillow and a manual breast pump as well?

Hi Jean!  Definitely bring your Boppy, but no need for a breast pump since your milk won't come in until around day 3 post delivery.  You produce Colostrum first.  And you should pack extra sanitary pads b/c the hospital ones are quite bulky.  No one really ever talks about it, but you bleed A LOT.

After visiting my gf in Jan post delivery, she recommended I bring my own b/c the hospital's one sucked. I've also heard that you won't need the breast pump either.

Wow, I can't believe you're a month away! :)

Glen!!! So great to see you on the boards again!  I was just wondering if I should bring the manual one bc I recently saw Vicky and Allen and they said to bring one bc she couldn't even produce colostrum.  Scared me!  but I dont have anymore room in my tiny suitcase!  But I did pack the Always overnights!

Thanks Laurie!

I enjoy reading this board b/c it brings back a lot of memories.  Every woman is different, so if you feel more comfortable, just pack your pump.  Your hubby will most likely be carrying everything anyway, right?  ;)  Or you can borrow a hospital pump.

Word of warning though: If you have to pump colostrum, it may take a long time.  A friend once told me she pumped for like 45 mins and only 1 ml came out.  Your body doesn't produce a lot of it, just the right amount for baby.  But I'm sure your LO will latch fine and you won't need a pump.

I'd actually suggest not bringing your boppy. To BF I just used pillows and blankets the hospital supplied and then used them while I was resting/sleeping. If you think you might need it I'd leave it in the car until you were positive you'd use it. One less thing for your DH to have to carry to the car when you leave if you don't use it.
