My name is Sarah (middle name Hope) and I'm really flattered that I was asked to share a little more about myself with you!
I have been a PW member since November 2009--so not long after I got engaged. I don't think I lurked for tooo long before I jumped in. :)
My wedding date is January 1, 2011 (1/1/11). Just a little over 100 days from now!
My wedding style/theme is whatever we can afford? Just kidding. :) We've got a pretty small budget, but we're going for a pretty simple, classic feel. We've got a little bit of a bird theme--mostly in our stationary and in our DIY cake topper. We've got a lot of DIY's!
Right now, I am working on our DIY cake topper. I'll be posting pictures soon--we just painted it yesterday and it's looking good! My FI is a big help with the DIY's. (If nothing else, he keeps bugging me until I work on them!)
My favorite thing about PW is how positive it is! I've never once seen anyone post something and get responses of "Ugh, that's hideous" or "Ew, you're going to use THAT?" Even if people have their doubts, they always give constructive criticism (things like, "I love that shape! Have you considered using a lighter shade of green, like this? I think it would look really great with rhinestones!") I don't think anyone comes here with the intent of making other brides feel badly about themselves--there's the occasional misunderstanding, but overall I think we all are trying to encourage one another in a seriously stressful time of life!
My best PW skill is offering etiquette advice or suggesting how people can have difficult conversations. Need to know how to gently tell your MOH that the knee-high go-go boots she bought aren't really what you had in mind when you told your BM's to choose their own shoes? I'm your girl. ;)
Some PW groups that I love are Etsy Love, book lovers, and glee!
One PW tip that I have for newbies is get yourself out there! Choose an avatar/profile pic if you don't have one. Make a few bio pages. Start responding in threads, even if you're not ready to make your own yet. Soon people will start to recognize your picture and learn a little more about you. Don't get discouraged if your threads don't get a lot of responses right away--don't be afraid to bump them, or start another one! A good way to get started with threads is to make a few inspiration threads--post the things that make YOU swoon and get everyone else drooling! ;) I think more people are willing to respond to an inspiration photo than they are to give advice on a complicated family situation (for example) to someone the don't know.
Thanks for inviting me to share! I hope to get to know you all better in the near future! Don't be afraid to send me a PM, a toast, or a friend invite. I promise, I don't bite.... hard. >:D
