Spring/Summer 2012 Baby Bumps!

How common is incorrect gender prediction?

So weird, yesterday my mom and hubby both brought up something about how accurate our 20 week anatomy scan was. I didn't even really think about it until now ... But now I am flipping out! We are so excited about Norah totally in love with this little girl, and I think now if I go to my next ultrasound (28/30 wks) and they say "oh it's a boy" I am going to be crazy! Is this common? Has this happened to anyone? When we got the u/s done, the nurse said "Im pretty sure it's a girl but we will have the doctor double check" and the doctor didn't even look at her lady parts! Now I am all worried ...!!

Everything I just looked up said 95% to 99% accurate.  But I think it also depends on what the u/s tech is looking at.  And at 20 weeks it's definitely that accurate.  You should be okay. :)

Our tech identified the ovaries so it would be way more accurate than looking for the actual genitalia.

I wouldn't worry about it. I had my anatomy scan @ 18 weeks and the tech predicted it was a girl. She even zoomed in on her lady bits to confirm. However, at one point in the pregnancy I began to doubt if it was a girl because I started reading and hearing stories about incorrect predicitions. I went to get a 3D ultrasound @ 30 weeks and it was still a girl. I got worked up for nothing. Needless to say, don't let others put doubt in you. Like Legentry said, at 20 weeks it's accurate.

I don't think it's very common for them to get it wrong.  Although if it does happen it is likely that you'll be told girl when it is in fact a boy... But honestly I wouldn't worry too much about it.  Did they give you a picture of the 'parts'?  If so, you should share because we've seen several and may be able to ease your mind :)
