How hard is it to change a dress into a sweetheart neckline?

Hi Ladies,

I just bought my dress! After I tried on about 50 dress my consultant thought about a dress that they had in the back because it was discounted. After I tried it on I was in love! I'm soo excited! Its a Manuel Mota-Costel dress, I love everything about the dress but the neckline. I just think a sweetheart neckline is more flattering on me.

Has anyone changed their normal strapless dress into a sweetheart? How much was the alternations and please include pics if you have it. Thanks!

I don't think it's a hard, or particularly difficult alteration athough with the cuff neckline you have on that you may not have success.  You would need a good seamstress willing to do it, and even then (to be honest) I'm not sure it will come out the way you are hoping. . .

Gorgeous dress btw!

it is easier than taking a gown in or letting it out.

im modifying my dress to have a sweetheart neckline! it's a little tricker on mine becuase there's beading and tulle at the top, but my alterations lady is amazing and will be able to do it. it's going to have a little pleating in the boob area. my total alterations is $200, and that's w/ bustle, sweetheart, adding boning to the front and back, hem, adding cups, and fixing some messed up beads.

I think with that cuff, it might be kinda difficult to get it to lay flat with a sweetheart neckline.....I just think that MountainBride is right and you just wouldn't like it as much as you think you would.

I know this is probably not the answer that you want to hear after you've heard so many good ones..but it can be a little tricky, even though the dress has no beeding.  You need to go to a seamstress and see if he/she's done it before, the needs to make sure there's enough fabric, and that they're supporting it (sewing in cups, bodice..etc) to give support.  My girlfriend wanted to change her bridesmaid dress into sweet heart..OMan, don't even get me started..haha, well, goodluck to you.

i wanted to do that for my dress but they weren't able to because my fabric was too delicate, had a sheer layer and was pleated.  but i'm thinking yours should be ok.  i'm no expert, but I'm assuming the fabric of yours will be sturdy enough to support it.  good luck!

if you find the right seamstress, they'll be able to do it.  i've seen much more complex ones have it done before
