How long did your reception last?

I am trying to figure out our schedule. I thought I had it all down but then found out we will only have 9 hours at our venue from the time our first vendor arrives. This really causes problems because we are suppose to have our photos taken prior to the ceremony. Our photographer said to allow 3 hours. So my bridal party will have to arrive at the venue to get ready at least 3 hours prior to that with our hair and makeup artist. If our wedding starts at 5 pm, our photos will need to start around 2 and my bridal party will need to arrive by 11 am. From 11-5 is already 6 hours.

How long is a typical reception from start to finish? We have fireworks scheduled at 1130 pm as the finale to our reception. But again from our arrival time at 11 am to 1130 pm is 12 1/2 hours. My DJ, lighting company and caterer will all have to arrive at least two hours prior to the start of our ceremony as well.

How long was your ceremony? Then how long was your reception? We are not having a cocktail hour. We are going from the ceremony straight into the reception.

my ceremony was about 45 min.  that is from the first person walking down the aisle to the last person returning down the aisle.  i had a pretty traditional Christian ceremony or at least traditional to Baptists.  our reception was 2 hours and 45 min. basically.  from entrance to when we left.  that included first dance, eating, cutting the cake, and the shoe game.  we didnt have any dancing other than our first dance.

Our reception was 5 1/2 hrs and that was plenty of time and we had 250 people. I am just confused on that the time starts when the first vendor arrives so that means you are wasting probably about 2 hrs on pretty set up. Are you doing any set up on your own or hiring all vendors? If you can get in the room the night before to set up some things that will help.

@August72bride our 9 hours she is giving us starts when either we arrive to get ready or our first vendor arrives. Considering our timeline with photographs before we are at 12 1/2 hours. I emailed the venue and she said I could pay an extra $700 for the extra hours over the 9 we need. I asked if we could get in the night before and only if we pay for a day's rental which I am not going to do at $3000.

All of my set up is being done by vendors. The venue will have tables set up and their white table cloths on them. I guess I will have to add set up to my wedding coordinating. I know vendors are use to dealing with time crunches. I will have my wedding coordinator, DJ, caterer, photographer and lighting company. The only thing to add to my tables are runners and candles. We aren't doing flowers. But I have to get my candy buffet setup, cake table, gift table and sweet heart table all set up which are a little more detailed.

Is there anywhere else you and the girls can get hair and make up done? Then get to the venue after that? Ours was a little similar, and I'll tell you, even with the help of our bridal party and vendors, it was a crunch to get everthing set up! Especially because as the bride-we can't go and help!!

Our ceremony started at five, and we were able to get to the venue at 1. We got our hair and makeup done at the salon and got to the venue about 1:30...and started setting up then. It was hectic! The tables and stuff were already set up by the venue, but we had other stuff to set up!! We started pictures at 3 and bc people show up early to the wedding, we had to be done taking pics at like 4-ish because people were already showing up and we had to go back into the bridal suite and just wait and hide!
