how long does it take to walk down the aisle

I am wondering if a 6 1/2 minute song is too long to have for 4 bridesmaids to walk down the aisle to. I am having one walk then when she gets to the very end and in her position another will walk. I want them each to walk on their own all the way to their designated spot where they will stand for the rest of the ceremony before another one walks. The aisle is a typical long aisle. I am guestimating 90ish feet but I really don't know. I know it's far and I wish it was shorter. lol So do you think a 6 1/2 minute song is too long?? TIA

The best thing is to go and practice!  All aisles are different so it's the pnly way to be sure :)

I think that's major too long. . .

I perform with a string quartet and we play Pachelbels Canon a LOT for bridesmaids. . .that song is several minutes long start to finish, and even with 7+ bridesmaids and/or a long walk we rarely make it that far into the piece.  We don't even make it 1/4 of the way into it. We've NEVER once finished it. . .and at best get about a minute *maybe* two out of it.

Sit for 6.5 minutes.  Just time it and feel how long it is. . .it's a long time for your guests to be sitting watching bridesmaids too, especially when you consider the actual ceremony is usually only 20 minutes (excluding religious ceremonies of course!).  The time of the BM walk is 1/4 of the total ceremony time!  Each bridesmaid would get over a minute to walk down the aisle. . .that's a long long walk.  Walk slowly for over one minute outside and see how far you get.

Set up your 4 BM's somewhere  (the yard) one night when you are hanging out (or 4 people) and time how long it takes for them the 'walk' the same distance.

Also, the day of, no matter WHAT you do, you and all your BM's are going to walk way faster down the aisle than you did at the rehearsal (again. . .I've seen it SO many times I can't count). . .  people get excited :)

What I would recommend is timing the gals in a 'lawn rehearsal' and figuring out a break in the song you are using where it can be cut short.

HTH!

ditto mountain.  I think it's too long.  Sit and listen to the song and imagine that you are at someone else's wedding watching 4 bm's walk down the aisle...for 6.5 minutes.  That's 1.5 minutes per bm.  If the aisle is 90 ft, they would basically have to walk very baby steps (12" steps so that they could take 90 of them), and only take 1 step each second, in order to use up the whole song.

The vocals don't start till a minute in so that's when they'd start walking so really it would be more like 5 minutes but I totally get what you are saying. Hopefully the guy at the church doing the music can fade the song out or something. I don't really know how else to do it. I thought it was too long but yeah, wasn't sure. I'm going to have music playing from 4 to 4:30 so as the people sit down they'll hear all of our songs. Well depending on when they get there they'll hear some of our songs. lol then a couple minute break then the bm's song will start to play and they'll walk down the aisle. I think that's how it's done. lol

i think thats too long as well... all you have to do is sit somewhere for 6mins and see how much time it actually is. it doesnt sound like alot, but when your walking... it definitely is. each BM will probably need no more than 1min to walk down, IF THAT!

**EDIT** mountain i see we were on the same page on the whole thing. lol
