How much did you pay for make up?

How much are you paying for make up? I have spoken to two make up artist and one says $250 and brides maids $75 an another one says $300 for me and $100 for the bridesmaids. Is this the average amount? And this is just regular makeup not air brush! The $300 one includes a make up kit for touch ups. I don't know how I feel about paying this much for make up.

Why can't you go to a makeup counter at the mall learn how to apply that makeup and buy the colors and do it yourself?

This was some years ago, but when we did this for my BFF's wedding it was only $60 total for the bridesmaids and $100 for the Bride because she was getting false eye lashes and a facial.

Have you looked into other people?

Have you gone to the Beauty school in your area. Often these girls need to develop a portfolio and you can often work with them before hand to make sure you like their work. It would be alot more cost effective.

I used to do freelance makeup. It's VERY pricey. Air Brush is highly very over rated in my opinion. I didnt like to use it and to this day i just dont use my machine. I thought about hiring someone but since i know how to do makeup its kinda pointless. I guess it depends on you personally and how much makeup you wear day to day. Because there is a lot of little tricks you can do to your makeup to make it much more dramatic for a special event. Like IDO said. Beauty schools can be a good choice. Thats how i got my portfolio pics just starting out. Any of your friends maybe? Would you consider doing your own? And are you a regular makeup wearer? I can give you some tips if you want to try it yourself?

I think it depends on your area also! I got airbrush and it only cost me $100! And I loved how it came also :)

woah.. $250 for just YOU?! yikes. i had a MUA from MAC come to my moms house, and she charged $65 for me (gave me a discount because she was late)and $60 for my BMs.

one of my best friends is a MUA, and she does editorial and special event work only, and even she doesnt charge over $80/pp, including airbrush.

we live in the philadelphia suburbs, so i guess it depends where you live as to how much your paying.

Yeah thanks for bragging Tressy-lol just teasing.  You were very fortunate not only because it was free but because he did an excellent job.  I loved your make-up as well. It was flawless.

I too am trying to figure out how much I want to spend on a MUA.  I am actually going to ask my niece to do a few trials for me....using MU I have purchased of course and see how it turns out.

I paid $75 for my bridemaids and $150 for me, but mine included a trial (so really $75 for trial and $75 for the day of). It was airbrush and included false individual lashes for everyone.

It definitely depends on where you live and how sought after your MUA is! Those quotes sound a little high to me. My friend (we live in Sacramento-so probably cheaper than some other big cities) booked one of the more popular MUA for her wedding and payed $85 for each BM and I think $100 or so for her.

I was lucky that I met a MUA student and she only charged me $20 per BM, and wanted to do me for free, but of course I payed her for me as well.

But think about your budget and keep looking if those quotes are too high? GL!

I went to Sephora and had them show me how to do it and bought the makeup I would need. cost me $124.00 and I still am using the make-up. When I had it done at a trial, I felt like they went WAY too heavy. I felt like a street walker! I liked being able to control it .

It depends on what you're getting and where you live. Some MUA's offer airbrushing for ex. which can be more.

My MUA cost me $45 for the trial and she was free the day of. My girls opted to do their own make up.

My good friend, who's a manager at MAC, did my makeup - $85 for the application and then extra for my lipstick and my BMs' lipstick (the girls paid the same and even though I knew her, there was no discount).  $250 and up seems really steep to me - I don't know about everyone else?!  I don't think I'd pay more than $100 for makeup, really - unless I'm paying to buy for the makeup that's being used?

It was $130 for the bride which included a trial and $45 for the BMs.

I used the trial to do my makeup for the bridal shower and tried airbrush and loved it but we ended up not using the airbrush for the wedding because of a complication. I have heard mixed reviews regarding airbrushing but I loved it and thought it was very light.

When I was getting quotes it was similar to the pricing you recieved. Since I was a budget bride I opted to DIY my makeup. I did get advice from the makeup counter though to spiff up my look.  :)
