How to add crystal beading or rhinestones to wedding gown??

Would love to read about any experience with adding crystal beading, rhinestones, etcetera to actual dress.  Glue?  Sew?  Best products to use?  How time consuming?

Have any one you experience with this....or know I could find out more about it?

I would like to know also :) I already have beads everywhere but I am torn between leaving it or making it more of my own by adding irridecent pink beads to the middle of my diamond flowers. Our colors are pink and orange and I kinda thing it would be a cute color option so I match everything else :)

I perform alot and have to jewel dresses all the time.

E6000 glue (clear) and jewels.  It would take too much effort any other way.

Get a small index card, squeeze a small amount of glue on it, get tweezers, grab a jewel, dip jewel on the glue to get a small amount on the back, place on dress, hold down to secure it and move on.

Just spoke to my FMIL (who is very DIY and an experienced seamstress) and she says that sewing beads, rhinestones or crystals on can be a drastic mistake depending on the fabric.  She is going to forward me info on fabrics that she believes may be common to bridal gowns but should be avoided for sewing beads on by amateurs.

Overall...she seems to prefer glue and she did recommend the e6000 just as aparker1269.

Or if you have lace, you can sew it to the lace.

I always sew swarovski's onto my dresses. I prefer the ones that have the full backings. I get mine from Mj trimming

It is time consuming, but very worth it in my opinion.

MJ trimming also has alot of appliques with crystals already on them:

They also have some amazing trims:

The jewel glue works well, but if you are hoping to save the dress for a daughter or to keep forever, the glue seems to eventually turn yellow and the beads fall off after years of sitting.  I would definately take the time to sew on if I were going to make it beautiful and to keep longer. If you want to sell it later, or dont mind I would glue, it works great and looks great.  Just my oppinion. :)

nikola & dreamingofyou - thanks for the info!!! =)

I guess my FMIL didn't want me doing anything without her knowing the fabric of my dress.  (which I don't have yet)
