I am finding tough to select a text for wedding invitation card.

I along with my fiancée have decided to ask our wedding guest not to bring any gifts for us and in spite of it do pay for their own meals at our wedding ceremony. I am finding it tough with the text as how to mention our idea on our wedding invitation card? Has anyone else ever tried this concept? Need your thoughts and suggestions on this.

Honestly, I don't think that this would be a good way to go.  That implies that they must bring the equivalent of a gift in order to attend.  If you don't register, hopefully you will receive some cash gifts that will re-coup some of the costs.  I just don't think your idea will bring the kind of attention you hope for your wedding.

I have heard of wonderful potluck and picnic weddings if cost is an issue.

I agree with the potluck. My reception is not a potluck really but family members are helping a lot with food. We are pulling off food for 200 guests for 1000 dollars.

I agree with pinkgerbers that it makes it sound like you are requiring a gift or gift alternative... I also say don't register anywhere and your guests will take a hint that you want cash. Then you can reimburse yourselves for the wedding costs...

I completely agree with gerbers. While I understand wedding costs add up quickly, I don't think this the way to go. I think you will really offend some guests by asking them to pay for their own dinner. People don't mind buying gifts, but 'paying to attend' your celebration is asking alot.

If you are looking to cut costs, maybe you could cut down the guest list, or have an appetizer/light meal reception. Sorry, but I agree that this is not a good way to go...

Potluck or having family members contribute are both good ideas! Plus, you can have some good 'ole family dishes!
