I'm SAD!

Due to financial reasons we had to officially post-pone our wedding. This economy really sucks and right now we couldn't even afford to get married even if we wanted to! I have no idea when things are going to change. I got really upset when I was talking to FH about this and he just wound up getting upset with me. I don't know what to do about the wedding anymore. I feel like it will never happen. Sorry I just needed to vent!

Have you thought about eloping? I know it is probably not the most ideal route to go, but at least you would be married. You could also hae a vow renewal down the line.

I did bring up eloping when I was talking to FH. He thinks that I will regret doing that and not having any sort of a wedding. I don't think that I would ever have a vow renewal.

The question is will you regret it or is that how he feels? The economy is bad and I had to get a second.job to offset the cost. You could elope and have a reception later on. Some dear friends.of ours are doing that in March. They are having a reception in June. Always remember that you are marrying the love of your life. Thay is what is important and what really matters. I will keep you in prayer and sending you lots of hugs!

What about a completely DIY wedding like I did and am doing for my vow renewal.

The only reason for the vow renewal is because I was 7 months pregnant when my DH and I married and we want our eldest to know that we really have always loved each other. It was finacial why we did not get married before I came to expect him, but as soon as my husbands insurance would cover us we got married.

Many of my freinds have also gone this route. I had our original ceremony at my grandfather's house and I made sandwhiches, salads wedding cake and punch.

It was really about getting married. We had a CD player for music and my father borrowed a video tape recorder. My family all took pics. It was wonderful.

Now 20 years later it is much the same.

A friend will be doing the photography andother will play 100 years on his guitar which is our processional song

I am making all of the food and again keeping it to less than 50 people so I can manage everything.

Do you have friends you could enlist to help you make the various items. Nothing needs to cost much.

These are just ideas. . . I understand wanting and needing the perfect fairytale and waiting until that time, but if you really want to be married you have options.

DIY is the way to go if your on a tight budget. My wedding almost didnt happen either due to finances. I did have help from my mom however. She paid for the venue and dress. There are ways to cut costs. Maybe you could set a later date? I found a very inexpensive reception hall thru the county in Daytona beach. (things that are city and county/city owned seem to be affordable). My dress i bought as a sample online. The ceremony site is the beach which if you have less than 50 people its FREE. MY officiant is my uncle/pastor. Cousin-photographer. Family friend is catering and refusing to let us pay as long as we provide the food for him to cook. I got all my talbe linens on e-bay and actually borrowed table cloths from a co-worker who does weddings. If your from the south and familiar with Publix they have VERY affordable and nice cakes. All my centerpiece vases and various items came from hobby lobby, michaels and the dollar tree. And most of it was on clearence or on sale. Put my fiance's suit on layaway and they were bogo free so his best man got a free suit. You can most definently do it!

I'm so sorry hun! It will all work out. I think the DIY is a great idea or there is nothing wrong with postponing!

Awwww, hon, I know just how you feel! -HUGS-

FI and I just had to push our date back a year because we just could not afford to get the rest of the wedding paid off in time. I know how frustrating and depressing it can be.

But try to look at the positives. You have more time to set money aside. FI and I put $100-$150 of each bi-weekly check we get toward the wedding. We pay it directly to the vendors and by the time our date is here it'll be paid off. Also, look at it as an opportunity to really plan well and just bask in the glow of being engaged.

If you ever need to talk/vent, please PM me! If you need any help with budget ideas, just post it up on the forums. The girls here have amazing ideas on shoestring budgets. =)

Aw sweetie I'm soo sorry for that!

As the other girls said, DIY is the way!

I here a lot of people say that for financial reasons..thats why I happy for the tradition here for the guests to give money gifts on weddings (maybe something to incorporate in American weddings? I have no idea if that happens in America)

We are doing a small ceremony (our parents, my grandparents, our sisters, and my boys.... 15 ppl total I think lol) then dinner at Olive Garden and my friend is taking pictures for us. Then we are doing a reception/renewal on our one year anniversary with everyone! Its the getting married that is important, the marriage is what counts, not the wedding! :) Good Luck Hun!!!

THANKS LADIES FOR THE POSITIVE SUPPORT AND IDEAS!!!  :D

We are looking to move right now and we also have to replace most of our belongings because of Hurricane Sandy and I have just been so frustrated lately with money!  We are not rich by any means but we do have good jobs and above average salaries but lately it seems like it's never enough. I have no idea how some people support their families who make minimum wage.  :(

I am fine with having a very small wedding or eloping. My FH is fine with either option too but he was getting upset because I was upset. And he didn't want me to not have a nice wedding and then regret it. We talked about it over the weekend and now I feel a lot better.

@tallflbride- I think that your wedding plans sound lovely!  :)

@halloween we lost all of our wedding photos and kids baby photos to a flood. I am so sorry you lost everything we only lost what was in our basement as we were just moving in still. That is terrible.

I wish you the best in the rebuilding of your lives. If I can help with something let me know via pm and I will do my best. Do you need gifts cards or clothes? I try and help people when I can even if it is just little things!

For fear of oversimplifying, ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE.

I feel for you (we had to postpone our wedding by a year, too!), but all that matters is celebrating the love you and FI have for one another - I TRULY believe this!!!  No matter how big or small, that's what it all comes down to!  Best of luck, girl - we're all for you!!!

@Santosha - Thank you.  :)

@IdoAgain20- We lost everything that was in our basement level apartment due to ground water flooding that happened after the hurricane but it was caused from the hurricane. Our renter's insurance policy doesn't cover ground water flooding so we were out of luck there. I have been replacing things but it is a slow go sometimes due to the economy so that has been really frustrating to me at times. I feel foolish when I feel that way though and I keep focusing on the bright side.

We stayed with family during the storm and I took all of the photo albums with me in a giant plastic tub. I am so thankful that I did!!! I know how precious pictures can be. You must have been heartbroken to loose them.  :(

I have been stalking craigslist and freecycle and garage sales like a crazy woman! And I've been blessed to find some great things!  :)

I got two dressers for free. They were a little shabby but some white paint perked them up a lot.  We replaced our clothes and toys for the kids. We bought a tv that was on clearance. It was not a priority to me but the price was too good to let it pass.  My mom found us a kitchen table at a garage sale for free! It was really late in the day and the owner just wanted to get rid of it. I'm going to paint the chairs when the weather warms up because they could use some TLC but we really are doing pretty well in replacing things. They are not the same quality things that we had originally but heck they're just stuff.  :)

Some people are so very bad off right now. I could cry just thinking about it. My family is part of the luckier crowd. We don't have to stay in a house that is mold infested or sleep in shelters. I truly appreciate your very generous offer!  That is very sweet and kind of you! We are re-building our home and filling our lives with the things that make us comfortable and happy and we're getting there. It's not happening overnight but it's still happening!  :)

I'm going through the exact same thing!  I'm seriously considering just pack me and the FI up and going to Vegas!    It's super frustrating though.
