I need a wedding reception, but I can't have my Sister-in-law's past place.. *advice*

I still need a place to have my reception and every place I find is either too expensive or just not my style, with that being said... my sister in law had her wedding reception 4 YEARS AGO at a place I really love and that speaks to my heritage yet she makes it a big deal whenever I even hint at the fact that it would be nice to have it at that place. I have no qualms about "sharing" a space our dates are so far apart she's in the past im in the future.. and I do not see her name on the mortgage papers for that place but I do not want anomosity either. What do I do?

Sincerly.......

Personally I would be happy if someone liked "my" venue so much that they wanted to have their wedding there!

And given the fact that the two weddings are so far apart timewise I thing this type of attitude by your SIL shows a kinda spoiled person with some kind of complex and personally would ignore her.

But that’s just my personal opinion not an expert advice!

I would say do what you want and since she is your SIL she will get over it. This is not about her, but about YOU and what you want. I am sure your Mother will agree that if you want it you do it and DO IT BETTER!

honestly what i want to say is %%&! her. but i don't know your sil so i won't go there. You're entitled to your day just as she was. you're entittled to have things exactly as you want them as well. like you said, her name isn't on the mortgage papers. Why would she have a problem with it? jealousy? scared you're gonna out-do hers?? please believe if the shoe was on the other foot she probably wouldn't even ask out of respect how you felt about her using your space. and she probably wouldn't even care

if it speaks to you,and if your fiance is on board with the idea, have it there!!!! she doesnt own any rights to the place or your decision. tell her to stop acting like shes 5, and to get over it!

Is your FI and his sister close? Will this start a all out war in the family?

Have you sat down with her and discuss it, or is she tantruming without even giving you a chance to explain?

I would tell her that you love the venue, and will be booking it, but give her a chance to tell you why she is behaving the way she is - hopefully it will save a lot of unnecessary drama if you do!

Good luck xx

Looks like all of us girls are in agreement go for the place you love and TRY and take her to lunch and tell her WHY you love it and hopefully she will get it.

Is she in your wedding party?

That may either help or aggrevate the situation.

Pick the venue you want! Its your wedding day!

If you feel like your sister in law might not be happy, just gently approach her about it and let her know you really loved the venue she picked and ask if she would be offended if you had your wedding there too. Chances are she would be flattered that you liked her venue that much!

Hey Guys..

Actually, it's not FI's sister it's my brother wife and yes I have spoken to her about it. Last time we spoke it was a "possibility" situation and she basically threw a small fit, said I could never out-do her wedding and I can't have that place. My brother, unfortionately agreed.

I am asking this girl to be in my wedding party, we have known eachother for 12 years and although we are not best friends we're still family and still love eachother. My mom says I should book it and then tell her, my FI says, it's your day do what you want. I don't want drama, I love the place.. I don't know if it's worth the snark. I appreciate all the advice and I will continue to persue the idea and if it fits budget wise, I think, I'll book it :) and they post the pics!! :)
