Spring/Summer 2012 Baby Bumps!

I've discovered the worst pregnancy symptom

The last few days I have been in my own personal hell. This is pregnancy number 4 for me, but somehow I've never had to deal with this symptom before. Ugh...constipation

I'll try not to be too TMI here, but I'm hoping I can save someone else if this happens to you. If you notice any symptoms of it, start doing the easy remedies immediately. Prune juice is beyond gross, but it's better than the alternative by leaps and bounds. I'm a very regular person, but I let it go for 3 days because I just thought this is one of those bad parts of pregnancy that I've not had to deal with before. Big mistake! By yesterday I thought I was going to explode so I called the dr to find out what I could safely do. I was told to use a glycerin suppository, and then miralax for a few days to get things back to normal. Umm...I'm not sure what most people would consider normal, but right now is the first time I've spent more than 30 minutes outside of the bathroom since yesterday at 2pm. Never again! I feel like I just got over the worst stomach flu to ever exist. I am planning on living on fiber and prune juice for the duration of this pregnancy.

Oh no! I hate constipation! I had it with my first and it's on and off with this one. With this one I've had constipation and diarrhea so it's AWFUL. When the constipation hits me, I take 2 Colace twice a day. I know most people don't want to take meds during pregnancy but it's what worked and still works for me. I can't get enough fiber in my diet even if I ate veggies all day long. :/

I read Colace on my sheet that the dr gave me so i'm going to have to try that.  Can i just get it at the grocery store?  My mom told me to do a suppository first to get things going and then to take the meds.

I really have to say don't do the suppository if you can help it. Maybe it isn't this bad for other people, but I can't even sit right after the bathroom time from doing this. lol Symptom 1 treatment brought on symptom 2...hemorrhoids. It's way too early in the pregnancy to be messing with that.

Ugh...I hear you. I hate, no, DESPISE hemorrhoids! Ugh!!!!!

@ onetxjewel, yeah, you can get them at any grocery store. I will get either the one that says Colace, or Stool Softener. Right now, I'm using HEB brand Stool Softener. As long as the generic name/active ingredient says "Docusate". SIDE NOTE: There's nothing wrong with the store brand! It is the exact same medication and it works. Trust me...I'm a pharmacist. ;)

Oh no! I already have a sensitive tummy as it is...I don't want constipation! I read in Jenny McCarthy's book that she went like, 12 days w/out pooping and had to go to the ER!!! I'm pretty regular right now and I snack on prunes so hopefully that'll help to prevent a back-up. I think I'll go buy some Colace just in case, though!

Ugh it sucks!  I'm dealing with it as well, eating salad seems to work pretty good for me.

K.Leah09 - I was totally freaked out that if I didn't do something I'd end up at the ER with a serious problem. 3 days of nothing was enough to scare me. I literally looked like I was about 4-5 months pregnant instead of 7.5 weeks. Eating prunes should definitely help. I think most of it can probably be controlled with diet, but it can be tough to fit it all in.

I'm with Pamel on this one. ugh, constipated (not painfully but definitely uncomfortable) and then diarrhea. One day it hit me really hard, like run to the bathroom every 20 minutes, and by the end of the day my stomach was comletely flat (at least as flat as mine gets!). I had been bloated for weeks to the point my pants were too tight and I was in my "big girl" jeans and then that night I get out of the shower and DH looks at me and goes "what happened to the baby bump??". poor thing so badly wants it to be baby he is seeing no matter how many times I tell him it is just bloat. lol
My sister (pediatric nurse with 4 kids) recommended Activia yogurt to help with the constipation especially since it has calcium and might be easier to get down for those of you who are struggling to eat right now.

Ok, I think I'm pretty close to normal again. I finally have an appetite again..and m/s came back. lol That part I could do without. I lost a total of 7 lbs in the last 48 hours, and my tummy looks like before I got pregnant again. That can't possibly be good for baby. I'm really cursing myself for listening to the nurses advice right now.

I had read about the Activia somewhere else as well, so I had DH pick that up. I also ate shredded wheat for breakfast with a prune juice chaser. lol This will not happen again!
