I won a prize from Cookworld?! Is this for real?

So I got this vm from 631-271-2025 saying I won a prize.  I dont recall ever entering a contest for a company called Cookworld.  I did a google search and ironically found this article.  I dont know if David's Bridal shared my info with them.  Has anyone else gotten a call from this company?

It's a scam. I get those phone calls all the time. You probably filled out a form at a bridal show or something. They want you to sit through a 90 minute high pressured sales pitch for cookware before they will give you your prize. The same thing goes for Smart Travel if you get calls from them too.

I got a call the other day from this company.  I listened to what the lady had to say and as soon as i realized it was a scam, I declined the offer and hung up.

I got scammed by them a few years ago...and I wasn't even planning a wedding!  I don't know what FI and I had signed up for, but suddenly we had won a "free vacation" all we had to do was come to this hotel to watch a 30 minute presentation...OMG...we thought we were being kidnapped, they would not let us leave until we finally broke down and purchased some vacation pyramid scheme, after 4 hours of being there!

The next day we googled the company and found thousands of complaints, we had to call our bank to stop payment, it was a mess, they change names of the company on a weekly basis, one minute they are a vacation company, next they are a cookware company.

My fiance and I signed up with Cookworld at a Bridal Show we went to and a couple weeks later we got a call saying our names had been drawn for a showcase of their products, and if we attended we would receive 1 of 2 prizes.. either a free set of wedding bands or a mini-vaca with a discounted price if we wanted to extend it.  Probably the same stuff they told you on the phone... we went to the showcase along with 2 other couples and the couple that didnt purchase anything still got the prize, and my fiance and myself along with the other couple DID purchase products and we actually received BOTH prizes, so I dont know, I know people keep saying it's a scam but we actually got the stuff they promised us.  And yeah we had to sit through a 90 minute presentation, but it was actually REALLY interesting and informative, and I dont think that's too bad when you then get free gifts afterwards.  We thought it was worth it and ended up with more than we expected, so as for us, we enjoyed ourselves, left with 2 really amazing prizes, and we didn't die from sitting through a presentation.

i will say though that Davids Bridal calls me twice a day everyday- THOSE calls I ignore.  When I'm ready to make an appt. and try on dresses, I will call YOU.  So annoying.

My FI and I won the prizes with Chef World also. We sat thru the presentation, which was nice and we actually purchased some cookware from them. We are using one of the vacations for our honeymoon and the other for a summer trip for the kids. Its not a scam, they're just a small-time company that's trying their best to get noticed in the "Bridal World" like Macy's. We won wedding bands, a 5day/6 night trip with all expenses paid (except airfare), and also a 2day hotel stay at any hotel we choose. Try it out, you don't have to purchase anything if you don't want.

great advice from the other ladies that went through the experience.  I mean its worth the try, if you dont mind the 90 minutes presentation and once you remember not to buy anything, and Im sure you wont give out important financial information.  Nothing lost is nothing gained.

Be sure you know when to say enough if enough. Social etiquette dictates you dont, but if you feel extremely pressured or threatened, leave immediately. It is called high pressure sales, and the people who work with them are taught to rely on social norms to pressure you into buying their product. I personally hate them, mostly because my parents are time share owners. Just be careful, don't act like you're interested if you're not, and leave whenever you want.
