In-laws would NOT wash their hands!

So most of you know my history with my in-laws (not a very good relationship). Well, yesterday we brought our DD out for the first time to his families house and when we arrived she of course got bombarded and me being the paranoid FTM asked everyone to wash their hands (which I have every right to do) well they didn't listen so I asked my DH to tell them.... Again, they didn't listen so my husband left her in her car seat the whole time.... His mom literally sat there holding her in her car seat because they refused to wash their hands! His aunt was pissed BUT you know what I don't care.... I am a mom and I have to do what is right for my child....

When we got home I talk to my DH about it and he said they didn't want to wash their hands because I asked them to!

oh my gosh. they are seriously crazy. how hard is it to wash their hands? when my cousin had her baby, her and the dad made everyone wash their hands. we thought it was a little over the top but we respected their wishes and wanted to hold the baby. each time you share a new story about them it makes me shake my head! they are nuts. remember that and don't let them get to you. good for you for sticking to your guns!

oh my, bling. your in law stories just keep getting better.  i just can't believe how stubborn they are being.  why can't they look past the fact that you asked them to do do it and see it as it's in the welfare of the baby?  unbelievable.

Bling I feel so bad for you!! These stories about them almost make for some sort of "Everybody Loves Raymond" humor, except in real life they're not funny!!! I feel so sad that they treat you this way. Hopefully they'll be able to respect your wishes as Gugu's momma! They've got to understand that you're her parents and they can't just do whatever they want around her.

Hang in there!! On the upside, your little lady is absolutely beautiful :)

How incredibly frustrating!  These people sound insane!  You have every right to ask people to wash thgeir hands before handling YOUR baby!!  Good on you for sticking to it and for your DH for standing by your side!!  What a nightmare!

But I agree with Mrs Black, you little girl is absolutely gorgeous!!

I can't believe they would rather look at her in her carseat instead of holding her.  Just because they didn't want to wash their hands because you asked them to.  I guess they didn't realize they were punishing themselves instead of you...

That is so silly!!! How frustrating and disrespectful of them! They would rather hold a car seat then hold their granddaughter just to make some kind of statement?!?! Crazy!!

WOW!! As Meany said, they are the ones missing out because of their stubborn behavior. It's just so sad that being defiant towards you is more important to them than holding their own grandchild....and yes, I do think you have EVERY right to ask something as simple as for people to wash their hands

Im sorry you are dealing with this :(

They were totally in the wrong, regardless of whether or not they agree with your wishes, they need to respect them. Good that you guys stood your ground though. It takes 30 seconds to wash your damn hands.... ugh

Oh my gosh! What a pain! I'm glad you and your DH stood your ground for the health of your baby. I'm sorry they are being so petty. I would have done the same thing and left the baby in the carseat!

Im sorry you have to deal with this. I can not believe they would do that! It is completely their loss. I have never been around a new baby and not washed my hands, most people will even if not asked! CRAZY!

Your daughter is absoluetly stunning!

I know right! They are nuts! I am so happy that DH stands by me and also puts his foot down.... I could see his aunts blood boiling but I honestly don't care.... His mom tried testing me when she came over to our house and the baby was hot so I asked her to take off her blanket.... She told me no she is cold, my DD was really hot and so I told her no she needs to take off the blanket and she did not like that I told her to take it off.... His aunt has always been really mean to me and even tried to give us a guilt trip because "we" didn't call her to come see the baby! I'm sorry but I have other things like umm maybe a newborn to take care off and don't have time to brush my teeth let alone call people!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!  Whenever you post crap like this I want to bang my head against the wall!!!  Im sorry you have to deal with this!!!

Its only common sense, right?  I remember when Lukie was first born, and that feeling you had of cleanliness, corncern for baby- I feel bad for you.   Lucas has already been VERY ill twice now- and hospital visits are no fun, esp you feel bad b/c you just think how your child got sick and its  helpless feeling.   Shame on them for not caring about the well being of Gugu!  Immature. period.

Kuddos for you and your patience with them- I would have gone postal already lol

Bling - the way you so graciously deal with your IL's I think you are on the way to sainthood.  Seriously.  I"m like Eugugoly, I would have packed the baby back up and taken `em home.  And in fact, your story of your horrorific IL's made me actually thank my DH for coming from a wonderful family!

Your strength and patience dealing with them is nothing short of amazing!

PS - Gugu is just about the cutest thing ever!!!
