Is it too cheap?

Hi all,

I am new to this board and LOVE It already. Anyway, I am semi-DIYing my invites and am wondering if you guys think it would be cheap to have my invites printed with a border instead of printing the invite then having a mat sheet under it? I am trying to get the visual effect of the layers without adding bulk (to avoid the cost of the extra paper and the extra postage)?

I am doing the invites in the pocket folds and like the pop of color I get with the extra layer but would like to avoid that extra cost.....

Couldn't figure out how to post pics on here from my iPad to give you guys a better idea of what I mean so help with that would be great too!

hm thats a hard one. its more of your personal preference. I am going to DIY my invites as well and wil not be "matting"/"layering" or whatever you call it :) lol.

If you want the visual effect of it then I would say do it!  I havent mailed or made my invites as of yet so i dont know the prices, but I dont see how much of a cost difference there would be if you did layer them vs didnt.

Is this what you mean when you say a border?

I personally do not see a problem with these, and it is a personal preference.  I have to confess though, I love all paper products, so I'm probably not much help.  ; )

I do not see a problem with it at all!

In fact, the first photo Becca posted is the exact design I started with for my invite. Your pocket folds are going to add a lot to your invites-I do not think it will look cheap at all!!

Agreed, I think the pic becca posted is great. It might be something you need to check the prices on. Where are you printing? If it's color, that could add up too and a bit of extra paper could end up cheaper. Good luck, can't wait to see!

Ditto the other ladies! It will look great either way! Just remember, even though invites can be super pretty, they pretty much get thrown away (so save that extra cash and use a border!) :P

Thanks ladies!! I didnt think it'd be too bad but some of my friends/family members can be really stickler when it comes to wedding etiquette etc (of course its only when they arent using their cash).

I feel much better now about my choice.

These will be enclosed in a silver pocketfold so that border i think gives it just a little *pop*

My invites sucked so bad and I regret them with all my heart.

They totally gave the wrong vibe of our wedding, and were cheesy and cheap.

But, they were to the point, and since we only had two months to plan, I was pressed to finnish and get them out as soon as possible.
I'm trying to make up for it with the actual wedding, the programs, and the menu cards.

I really wish I spent more time on them....We're on such a tight budget, but it wouldn't have really cut our budget if I had done something nicer.

I guess I'm just saying, don't skimp on them....I thought "it wont matter, no one will care" and they probably didn't, but for me, they were the only thing I really didn't like about everything I DIYed.

But A boarder is totally fine.  I think simple and understated is beautiful.  Just make sure you love them before you send them out.  That's all.

Lol there I go on my invite rant....this happens everytime invites come up...I'm so embarassed! hahahaha

I think that's a great cost-saving measure! All you need is the visual effect, and lets be honest, most people are just going to throw the invite away eventually so save the money! Those are cute :)
