is your BM dresses supposed to be similar to yours?

just a dumb question...but i was wondering if BM dresses are supposed to be along the lines of your your wedding gown. Any input is appreciated!

i don't think so.  in fact i'm trying to have my bm's all have different styles from each other as well.  depends if you want everything matchy-matchy or not. otherwise i don't think it matters.

I was in a wedding that the bridesmaids dresses had the same type of style as the bride's wedding dress, and it looked beautiful!  But it doesn't have to be similar...my girls are chosing their own dresses.  It does look nice, though....

If it works out well to have them dressed in a similar silhouette/neckline as your gown, then it does look very pretty.  However, I think it's more important to have them COMFORTABLE in what they're wearing (it's hard to look pretty when you're uncomfortable or self conscious).

mine are they are in the same material and line language.  For example I have crystals going across my waist so BM's have a sash is the same place.  My dress is a strapless sweetheart so theirs is too.  Also before I chose my dress I was goign to get something with even more pickups so then at the time I was thinking to have BM's be in pickups too.  But really its a personal choice I think.  I'm having everyone in the same dress others have different variations or styles for each Bm and that looks good too.  Some have the MOH be different from the Bm's as well to give or show hierarchy

It's not required. In fact some brides make sure the BM dresses look nothing like their gown. On the other hand, some brides want them to look similar. Its up to you and there are no real rules, really. I'm somewhere in the middle. I don't want them to look like my dress but I'm not adimant about NOT looking like my dress.

My bridesmaids all have different gowns. I gave them guidelines that I wanted. Strapless, Apple Red and long.  Then they decided which gown was right for them.  My MOH is wearing a burnt orange dress that is knee length in the front and a little longer in the back~so she will stand out.  My dress is a halter style dress.

i don't think they need to match, although i'm probably biased since mine don't! :)  my dress has a strapless sweetheart neckline and my BM dresses are halter.  my dress is long, their's is knee-length.  mine is duchess satin and their's is chiffon with a satin band around the bodice.  my main concern was finding a dress that they all liked, were comfortable in, and would potentially wear again...
