Keeping the Spice!

Ladies how do you keep the spice in your marriage after being together for a few years? I ask because I notice a lot of people on TV, online etc... talking about spicing up your sex life and keeping the romance in a marriage and date nights. As women who are already married we have some things that we do to keep our men smiling ;) So why not share:D

Honestly, we go thru those damn spurts where you just don't feel like it...and of course we don't do it like we use to when we first got together, you know like 10 times a day, lol

But, thankfully we still have fun together. Our sex life is on a different level now. We are so comfortable with each other and we trust each other not just as marrieds but as best friends.  We're never embarrassed to say "hey lets try this" I love that about being an old married couple.

After we had kids and two demanding careers taking up most of our time, I have to admit, the romance and spice was a bit lacking. We went to a Marriage Retreat in Lake Tahoe a while back (my husband is in the Army and this was not only a free trip, but a great way to get some unquestioned time off) and something magical happened. It was like falling in love all over again. We watched this movie called Fireproof with Kirk Cameron (great movie by the way and wouldn't have probably ever watched it otherwise). If any of you haven't seen it; it is basically about a young married coupled having regular arguments over finances, job, household chores, and outside interests. They are heading for divorce, but in one last ditch effort find a way to re-spark the romance. My husband and I were never at the point of divorce, but we did have our little spats over the usual suspects (ie finance, work, housework, etc). Anyway, after the movie, we were given this book to use based on the movie called the Love Dare. My husband is not very religious and a bit of a skeptic, but he was actually the one to initiate the romance suggested by the book. Here is the link for the website if anyone is interested. http://www.fireproofthemovie.com/ (the movie is available at BlockBuster, Netfilx, and public libraries).

We also have a Date Night once a month (even if it is just to go for a walk hand in hand by a lake). This is probably T.M.I., but we are intimate at least once a week (which is a feat with two kids and hectic work schedules!). Romance for us isn't always lighting 50 candles, covering your bed with thousands of rose petals, popping open a bottle of expensive champagne that you'll probably only have a sip of.............for us it's the little things in life. Such as me ironing a 2 weeks of uniforms for him so he doesn't have to spend his Sunday doing it, or him getting up extra early on his day off to wash and vacuum my car so I don't have to worry if my clients thinks I am a slob. Whatever you do, keep the romance alive. I think the best way to do that is "Acts of Love" rather than just saying it. In the famous words of Paris Hilton, "Now that's Hott!"

To be honest, with work, our child, our child's school, owning our own business, life in general, romance has been on the back burner for a very long time. It's difficult to work it in. I guess we just don't make it a priority.
