Kevsgirl's Wedding Rehearsal/Ceremony Recap - Long with some pics
Ok -- so we're back from Costa Rica....even though I will miss doing nothing all day except relaxing and eating, I am glad to be back & start being married in the real world! Here's a recap as well as some of my insights into the big day which I hope will help future brides....I will put more pics in a separate post because i keep having issues posting!
The Day Before:
After doing all my beauty stuff (hair, nails, etc), we had our rehearsal & dinner. I will say it was really nice to stop doing detailed wedding stuff and start enjoying the big picture: Kevin & I getting married, and our dearest friends and family sharing in the celebration. The only downside was that dinner didn’t start till 8, so it went till 10:30pm, and after hanging out with my girls at the hotel I got to bed way too late.
The Day of:
I slept in the hotel suite alone (which was truthfully kinda cool), and my mom called me at 8am to wake me up. I took advantage of getting up early to start showering and getting my mind right for the day. My fabulous BMs came to the suite early with breakfast & coffee, and my cousin put on a super fun girlie music mix for us to get ready to. Hair and make up artists arrived, and that’s when the whirlwind began. Once I was in the chairs getting ready my nerves started to kick in. it went quick--All of a sudden the photog & video guys arrived and it was time to get me into my gown.
Believe it or not, I didn’t even really look at myself completely in the mirror before I left for the church. I was already feeling a little emotionally overwhelmed, and I knew that if I saw myself all dressed up I would cry, so I relied on my mom’s feedback to make sure I was all good.
We arrived at the church after what seemed like the longest car ride ever (probably only 15 min, but it felt like an hour!), and I’m all set to the go and the limo driver has everyone get out except me L Turns out DH’s (yikes!!) dad & his guess hadn’t arrived yet, and they were trying to give them a little more time to get there. My limo driver was so incredibly sweet, kept coming to give me little updates now and then. FINALLY the priest couldn’t wait any longer, and it was time to start. My daddy was waiting for me at the church and we joked around a bit (he knows me so well & knows just how to take the edge off). Before I knew it, the procession had started and my bridesmaids were starting to walk in.
I can’t describe the million emotions that seemed to pass through me when the church doors closed and I heard the Bridal March start. I wasn’t really nervous anymore, I practically wanted run down the aisle to see my FI. I almost thought I was going to make it all the way down the aisle without crying, but then I saw some of my close cousins boo-hooing and it was over for me :-/ I couldn’t really see FI until I got about halfway down, because so many people were crowded toward the aisle to see, take pics, etc. When I saw him it was like we locked eyes & we were the only ones in that church. My dad had tears in his eyes when he lifted my veil. I felt so amazing because Kevin kept telling me how beautiful I looked and staring at me, even though I kept signalling to him to pay attention.
The ceremony was beautiful. Our priest was adorable and made the it so personal (he was my priest in college, so it was very special that he agreed to come as a visiting priest).
I have to say that my hands down favorite part of the day was saying our vows. For the last 18 months I was so nervous about having to speak in “public” and messing them up, but it truly felt like Kevin and I were alone speaking to each other. It was so powerful!!! This is the part that I keep replaying in my mind & smiling to myself about.
After the ceremony was over, our receiving line was absolute mayhem!!! With so many people congratulating, hugging, kissing us, it was crazy. Fun, but crazy. I’ll admit I was a bit relieved when our planner whisked us away to go to our picture location.
Here are a few rehearsal:
More to come in part 2 and a separate photo post!
