Kids at weddings

Are you for or against having kids at the wedding? I've actually never been to a wedding that didn't allow kids, but I know some brides out there have that preference. Yet I've been seeing on various sites little details you can incorporate to make your kid guests feel special - like separate invitations, balloon artists, and I saw someone even do a separate bouquet toss just for the little girls. I thought that was cute, but I don't know, if you're on a tight budget, it seems unnecessary.

I have thought about an "adults only" wedding, but if we did that, then a lot of people probably wouldn't be able to make it to our destination wedding. Besides, a wedding is not a wedding without families and kids around!

My concern was that the kids might get bored during the 4-hour reception, so instead of giving them regular favors like all the other adult guests got, I made them "beach buckets"! Each kid got their own personalized beach bucket full of goodies - cookies, puzzles, games, crayons, coloring book... things that would keep them occupied during the reception.

In the end, it worked out well because they were doing the puzzles and coloring books, and when they were done with those, they played with each other or they fell asleep.

If your reception venue has a separate room with a TV and DVD player (or you can bring your laptop), you can hire a nanny and the kids can watch movies in that room!

We are always around kids and our wedding won't be compete without them. However, we are only inviting kids of family and friends. I plan to have some kind of goodie bag for them - just to keep them occupied.

We invited kids, but only one family so far is coming with all the kids. So I'm not sure what's going to end up happening. What started out as a family friendly wedding has turned into an all-adults wedding, except for one family...

We're inviting kids only because most of our friends who have kids wouldn't come if they couldn't bring their kids. Plus I just can't picture our wedding without them... they often provide excellent and funny photo opportunities. I only know of one couple who is using our wedding as an excuse to have a weekend away from the kids.

To keep the kids from getting bored, we'll make a perosnalized mini-toy box at their place setting with crayons and a coloring book and other random toys. We even talked about giving the older kids (8 or 9 and up) a disposible camera to see what kind of shots they can come up with. They will be the only guests with actual place cards. Everyone else will just be listed on the centerpiece.

We don't have little kids in our family, but I think some of our married friends are trying to get pregnant presently. But I have 15 months to go, so I suppose I can cross the "how to entertain the kiddos at the reception" bridge when I get there.

Do open bar receptions and kids mix?

haha sure why not? The parents will need it to control the kids, and the kids can laugh at the 'funny acting' adults.

I'm not against having children at the wedding, but it's hard to pay for them, knowing they won't eat much and will be pretty bored. I chose not to invite too many since our venue's discount is still more than I care to pay.

I think it's fun to have kids at the wedding. I plan on getting things from the 99 cents store or Dollar Tree to make up lil goodie bags for them when they get bored.

i'd prefer an adults-only reception as well, but i'm obviously going to allow all of my extended family (mostly cousins) to bring their children.

i'm already having a hard time keeping the guest list down, since i've got 13 aunts/uncles with 2-3 children each. i've got a large family, but it makes for fun family weddings. =)

oh, did i mention my fiance's family is large as well? eeks! heehee...=)

I think there is nothing sweeter than the 6 year-olds dancing together, or with the other adults. The people with families tend to leave early anyway, so there is plenty of adult time. I also find it hard to watch bunch of single women fighting over the bouquet....I'd rather there be some kids out there to catch it...they'll remember that in a very special way.

I'm having a destination wedding and a few children will be attending. I'm filling a sand bucket with some beach toys, coloring books, crayons, bubbles and other things to keep them occupied. Dollar store, here I come lol.

Children are lovely at weddings - at least, that's how I feel. They can be a bit of a bother sometimes, but kids will be kids, right? I think having children is a natural extension of marriage. A family atmosphere is a nice thing to have at a wedding, plus it means that more of your friends who have kids can make it. But that's my opinion - some people absolutely don't want kids wandering around and bringing chaos along with them. ;)

We must invite kids also because if you will not allow them then their parents won't be interested in coming for the same .It's better to invite the entire family so that everyone can enjoy .One thing only is needed that they should not misbehave over there.I like wearing kids wedding dresses in which they look so beautiful ...  we technically are having an adults only reception. However, between the two of us we have 13 nephews and nieces that we love dearly so they will be invited.
I feel like having kids should based on what kind of wedding you want. FIs cousin is getting married and she wants her recpetion to have a very "club' like feel so shes not having kids. If you want a family gathering then totally have kids! I feel like its not something that will make or break your day!

nope, no kids! only my niece and nephew which are 14 and 9. I prefer not to have them jumping up and down and paying for them.
