Kitchen Flooring - Help & Advice Needed (Pics) !!

Following on from my last kitchen flooring post, the Amtico tiles arrived but they look completely different from the sample and pictures on the internet.

They are meant to look like this:

But arrived looking like this:

I just feel like they have a lot more blue-ish colour on them and in the samples it looked more grainy.... maybe I'm wrong?

Anyway... DH and I aren't sure about them... So I then ordered a different kind of tile which arrived yesterday and we laid them on the kitchen floor to see what they look like.  They're a more creamy colour with no grain....

Although it's always harder to tell in a photo - which one do you personally prefer?  I'm not too sure either of them go....

Do you think that perhaps I should go for a darker colour?

For example, something like this?

Spacia Stones 'Ceramic Flint' Vinyl Floor Tiles S2594

or this?

Spacia Stones 'Linear Stone Shale' Vinyl Floor Tiles S3606

or this?

or this?

As you can see... I'm totally confused!

Thanks so much girls!

This is what our kitchen looks like as a whole:

Awesome kitchen and I'm jealous of all your counter space!

I personally prefer a flooring color that isn't close to the cabinet color so I would like something like this:

It's kind of hard to tell but what exact color are your cabinets and counter top?  On my comp your cabs look off white and your counter tops look taupey-gray?

Thanks so much for your suggestions...

The cabinets are while and the counter tops are a granite gray... slightly darker than they look in the photos...

I'm starting to think the light flooring is throwing me off...

I think either will be absolutely fine, but if you aren't sure about them then I would change them. It's so hard because it always looks weird when you have major new things put in!

I've always preferred darker floors in kitchens, but they do tend to make the space look smaller. I think any tile with a grey colour to tie-in with your counter would look great.

Thanks girls - it's still driving me nuts, I think it's due to me being a bit of a perfectionist.  I'm now worried I won't be able to sell the other tiles we've got in and still confused over which one to go for...

this?

If the counter has any sort of pattern I would go #1, if it's plain do #2

Such a bummer that it isn't what you thought, and that you can't return it.  Do you have something like Craigslist or Kijiji over there?  I don't buy stuff that way, but my one friend will go looking for someone's leftover tile from a project they're selling so she can do a bathroom, etc.

For some reason I can't copy & paste pictures :(  Essentially, my fav is the one that October likes.  I agree with Canook though, that if the granite has a lot of details then maybe you should go with the "simpler" gray one.

Do any stores have samples or display tiles?  I know the first tiles you bought were a special order, but maybe if these two gray options are regular stock you can view them before placing an order?  Or just order a small box of each?  Pains of the process of elimination :(

I had a hard time when I picked my tile for my house.  I got lucky though and the owner's sister happen to be in town and she is a home decorator.  She was wonderful and helped me alot.

You know at first one of my tiles I wasn't so sure about either but after they got them all in I loved it.  It is so hard to tell with one little piece sometimes but when you get them all in, it completely changes the look.

I agree that I would do something different than the cabinets.  I like your #1 choice but I think they both would look wonderful.

One thing I did was used 2 colors and this is one of my favorite tiled floors.  I wish I had a better picture but this is the only one I can find right now.  They are just laid down without the grout here but I love it.

That might be an option for you to do a lighter and darker grey mix if you like this look. you wouldn't necessarily have to do the "rug" border you could mix them another way.  I actually wish I had done more of this in my other rooms we tiled.

Thanks a bunch girls, you don't know how much this is helping me out.  We're definitely going to change the tiles and cut our loses because they lighter ones really don't look right!

This is our surface area of our worktops...

Thanks a bunch girls photo 3234853-1

So now, do you think the plain flooring would go better or the other one?

Ahh I must be driving you all mad!! haha!!

@ Athena - we don't have Craig's list but I'm hoping to sell the other tiles on ebay!

xx
