Lateness

So For the past two weekends I've been busy attending weddings, three to be exact! :) I love wedding ceremonies. I always have. My favourite part of any wedding.

So anyway, at 2 out of the three wedding the brides were extremely late!! I'm talking 2 hours or more!! I was really annoyed at that. Especially since neither thought it was necessary to let the guests waiting know that they were running late. Everyone was just sitting there and wondering what happened to them.

What really got me upset though, was the fact that even after a two hour delay because of the bride's tardiness, there were guest walking into the ceremony late!! At yesterday's wedding one guest came in an hour after the ceremony began! She told me she thought it was at 2:00pm and not 11:00am as stated on the invitation! And her daughter was a flower girl!!!

I don't care how selfish it makes me, I don't want anyone walking into my wedding ceremony late, especially that late! I think that that's total disrespect, to both the couple and the other guests. Am I asking for too much?

I don't think so and moreover I hate the cliche that every bride is late for her wedding!!! That is a horrible petpeeve of mine people being latein general and it is in poor taste to be late for a wedding! Some things can not be helped like the limo being late or not showing up at all, but do not have guest waiting for an unreasonable amount of time. Most guest will arrive 30 minutes early anyway so just imagine if the bri ide is two hours late! I am happy you posted this because it is rude, selfish and not cute to be late for your wedding just because you are the bride. For the guest do not be tardy afor the party and for the brides, please be on time and no excuse just because your the bride!

No late people for me.  Once the ceremony starts no one will be allowed in, I don't want my moment interrupted.  That being said, I plan to be ready early to make sure that I am not late either.

oh my gosh!!! I can't believe a bride could possibly be that late to her own wedding! And to not know what time the ceremony is when your daughter is IN the wedding. I am astounded! Our planner said she will only let the ceremony be 5 minutes late. If anyone arrives after that she will quietly and inconspicuously dismiss them. That is just craziness!

I just couldn't believe it!! NO ONE saw it fit to apologise to the guest who had been sitting for hours (in the sun in one instance). I felt like they were punishing me for showing up at the time they specified on the invitations. One of the weddings I even went to the DOC and offered my assistance because she looked more confused and flusterd than anything else!

Oh Jeez....this is....special?! Especially the part where the bride is 2 hours late!!!

As for the guests, I agree, it's really disrespectful! But in my personal experience, when the ceremony began, you aren't aware of anybody else in the assistance except from your FI. So there were probably some late guests (like 10-15 minutes late) at my wedding, but I didn't even realize it. Don't stress to much over this!

10 minutes late, that's normal because things happen. It takes longer for people to get ready than they plan. My BM's weren't ready on time and we missed some group pro pics. We were still lined up in time to start the processional on time though.

But 2 hours? That's ridiculous.

I understand slightly running behind, but two hours seems absolutely ridiculous!  And late guests are a major no-no.  We were fortunate enough to where there were two sets of doors into our ceremony area with a lobby surrounding the sanctuary.  No one showed up late, but if they did, they would be able to wait in the lobby until the ceremony was done.

Its crazy. I've been to a few that started late too, don't know what happens that day to make the bride late but I'm known for being on time and may wedding will begin on time. And because I've seen guests come in late at other weddings because they have the believe that weddings never start on time (I've actually heard someone say that) on my wedding website I put on bold layers that the ceremony will begin promptly at 12 noon. So hopefully that will deter late comers.

I do not do late.  Not at all!  It, to me, is the most disrespectful thing - ever!

I was talking to my priest the other day telling him I can't stand being late. He was so happy to hear that.  Being that he's been a priest for 40 years, he's seen all kinds, so he was happy to know I wouldn't be pushing the time.

I'm excited to marry my FI, so I'm not going to be a second late!

I agree....a little late (5-10 mins) could be unavoidable but 2 HOURS!! that's crazy. At my Fi sister's wedding they were a little late coming in but as the minister explained my fmil had gotten a bee up her dress an they had to get it out... lol so it was completely understandable. Plus everyone was outside and we knew that they were and it was like 5 mins.

Wow, 2 hours late?!! That's insane! I only had two people running in late, which they were just standing there looking at me at the bottom of the steps.. I was like, umm, go upstairs!!! So that annoyed me! Everyone else was on time (I think), so hopefully you won't have that problem!!

2 hrs w/o am explaination? I would have left! Lateness happens. My friend's FI was on the way (about 1/2 hr from ceremony) then there was an accident on the road. He was almost 2hra late but they TOLD ppl! (unavoidable obviously!) He left early btw!

As for ppl coming in late...there are ways for ppl to do it politely. Again travel needs to be understood (80% of DHs guests came in from out of town) they all made it on time but DH & I agreed & warn MIL we were starting on time PERIOD. If they were late so be it. Their loss not ours! I wouldn't have noticed if someone came in late I had no idea. All I saw was the love of my life & the alter I was baptized on.

This is why we did pictures BEFORE the ceremony. NO option to be late. I was the one waiting for everyone to be seated. But I would rather it be that way.

I can't imagine showing up 2 hours late. That is beyond rude. My ceremony seats would've been empty. Lol. My family doesn't tolerate that nonsense. And I certainly hope someone informed the groom that his bride was going to eventually show up? Ugh. Nick would've been irate if I'd have made him stand around all nervous for 2 hours. With good reason! That's unbelievably self-centered.
