Long or short bridesmaid dresses

I am having a November wedding and I am debating long or short dresses. I thought my bridesmaids would be more comfortable in long dresses due to the cold Iowa weather, but I'm not finding a lot of affordable long dress options in my color choice - charcoal gray. Does anybody have suggestions for a place I can find affordable long dresses or short dress alternatives so my girls won't be too cold or uncomfortable? Thanks in advance!

Well, if evening I tend to like Full length if late afternoon Tea length and if early afternoon short.

I find long gowns so elegant and glamorous. I know I am too conventional, so I guess short is the best new style. I probably need to go back to the 1950's LOL

I bet they will look great no matter what you choose!

Can you define affordable? for some it could be under $100 and for others it could be under $500.

Target has bridesmaid dresses at $69, Davids bridal is always having sale. don't be afraid to look at regular stores like Macys, nordstrom, JCPennys, forever 21

online  stores Jcrew, ebay, etsy

hope this helps

I was worried about long gowns being more costly as well! I found the best place to get discounted wedding gowns/formals! netbride.com. They act as a middle man between you and the designer so you cut out the middle man and get a lower price. The dresses I picked were by Eden. They arrived in less than 3 months and had all the designer labels and tags on them. Here's a picture.

They were $110 each!

Here's a picture of my daughter trying hers on.

Check out Dessy Group. They have dresses $150 and under. I was looking for chiffon and found the perfect long dress for my bridesmaids.

depending on your theme. I think a longer dress would be more elegant for a november wedding.

happy planning! cant wait to see what you choose!

I am wondering the same thing as well but I think I am going to go with longer ones.  What is you theme?  I think both can look very elegant but I agree that the longer ones might be a better option for the cold.

My wedding is this February (8 days, eek!) and I thought I wanted all the girls in short dresses.  It would be fun and they could wear tights and a jacket with it too.  But I had my MOH try on short dresses for me and it just didn't feel "wedding" enough for me.  It almost seemed like she was just trying on a cute dress for everyday.  Once she put on the long dresses though, I was in love!  I think you may just have to witness one of your BM's trying on both options to see which you like best.  I love the look of short dresses, but it just depends on what type of feel you are going for.  Good luck!

Here are some of the dresses we thought of using (short), and what we actually went with (long):

You got great advice from the above ladies. What is your budget? Are the ladies buying their own dresses? What I did is ask the ladies what was their budget and if they wanted to wear long or short dresses. Everyone is shaped differently and varied in heights, so I wanted everyone to be comfortable as well as love their dress!

All great ideas ladies!!

I automatically think long dresses for late fall/winter, but I am kind of loving this look!

Ultimately you have to go with what you like best, maybe after seeing a bunch of styles in person, and while trying to keep cost in mind is very nice of you - don't let it be your main decision maker!

you could go either way. If you do short, i say get some tights like the girls said ( love this look ) and a bolero or pashmina  to keep there upper body warm. Such a cute look :) It would be a nice way to add a secondary color to the look as well. I don't know what your colors are, but as an example: a grey short dress, with pink tights, matching pink bolero and pink bouquet.
