Master Cleanse-Detox anyone?

Hi everyone,

I set a goal for myself to lose about 45 pounds in 3 months about a month ago. I know it's aiming high but it needs to get done! :p.  I spoke to a trainer and a friend of mine who's a dietician and they set me up on a plan. One month into it and I lost 6 pounds!!! 6 measly pounds after 4 weeks of 5 days/week 1 hour cardio + 1300 calories a day!!! How was that possible!!??

So again, I went back to the expert team and complained, whined, cried a little and threatened to quit! ( well, that last one was just to myself). My friend said that it was possible that my body was storing too many toxins and junk that were not allowing healthy functioning of my "fat-burning" system (or something to that extent, it was complicated and got me picturing my body as some kind of defective machine that needed a good cleanup, which is exactly what it needed aparently!). So...enter the Master Cleanse!

I want to lose weight and get that feeling of being "squeeky-clean" on the inside. I read Beyonce did the Master Cleanse but ate a cheeseburger the day after she finished the diet...guess she didn't get the detox memo. Nonetheless, she lost 22 pounds in 2 weeks.  Yes yes, I know most of you would say it's water weight but how is that possible concidering you're drinking 12 cups of water/juice a day?! do you evacute more than that in a day on this diet?! :s

Anyways, just wanted to know if any of you have tried it, how that lemonade/maple syrup drink tastes like and what were your results. How did you do it with work and ...the washroom breaks needed for...you know :s

I'm thinking of doing 10days. Starting asap.

Men will almost always lose weight faster than us doing the same thing.

I'm going to play devil's advocate here and tell you that your 6 pound loss is wonderful. While losing 45 lbs in 3 months is "possible" and even doable, you need to consider that healthy weigh loss is in the 2-3 lb range per week with an average of 10 lbs total factoring in flucutations.

Also, if you have not been doing regular exercise or training, you may at this time be building a lot of muscle instead of just burning fat.

Unless you are overweight to the obese point and working out several hours per day (instead of just the one you mentioned), you will not really expect to lose more than 12 lbs a month - in a healthy way that will be maintained.

You should accept your loss as an accomplishment and keep pushing through. You may have a bigger loss next month!

(oh, and juice cannot substitute for water because of the sugar in it. you gotta just get at least 8 glasses of water in before you try drinking ANYTHING else)

I hate to bring you down, but 45 pounds in 3 months is not safe at all.

On a good, healthy diet you will lose 1-2 pounds a week. That's at most about 25 pounds in 3 months. A cleanse will only take off some water weight and you will gain it all back in a snap. You are basically starving yourself, since you are taking in a ridiculously low amount of calories. And it's nearly impossible to keep up with it, starving yourself leads to huge cravings and the desire to overeat which totally defeats the purpose.

Your body will go into starvation mode, meaning it will actually horde calories and make it difficult for you to lose weight and when you do start to lose you will actually be eating away muscle. And there are sooooo many health risks with diets like the master cleanse, it's scary!

The hard truth is that there is no quick fix, and shame on anyone for telling you otherwise. You need to start eating very healthy, generally about 1200 cals a day is the lowest reccommended for women, and you must exercise! A combination of cardio to burn cals and strength training to promote muscle growth which will help raise your metabolism and help you burn even more!

Slow and steady is the only way.

Oh I do agree that there is no replacement for good nutrition and exercice for weight loss. But I am overweight and did lose those 6 pounds the FIRST week then it just stopped. Weird...

I've been doing more research and I think I'm going to do this! Dr. Oz covered the healthy way of doing it and did admit that the lemonate/maple syrup/cayenne drink flushes out unwanted junk in the body...so, I think I'm ready. I'm going to detox my body.

I'll let you guys know the progress. I'm going to start tonight. If anybody would like to join me then just google Master cleanse to get the recipe and instructions and let the games begin! there are also plenty of youtube videos of testimonials and "my journey" on the cleanse.

I'll weight myself tomorrow morning and post start weight.

I feel like if you're consulting with a dietician and a trainer, whatever they put you on is going to be safe. Good luck!

hey guys!

So guess what? I did it! yup...the MASTER CLEANSE DETOX! I can't believe it. 10 days worth. I feel wonderful. The pipes are spanking clean and I lost 8 pounds of garBAge from my body. It was difficult the first 3 days and I was very very hungry, but after the 4th day, a burst of energy followed and then I honestly felt great the last 3. I think I could of continued for a lot longer then 10 days but chose to instead get back on the workout/nutrition regiment.

So far, the count is 6 pounds in december+ 3 in january + 8 (and counting!) in Feb; for a grand total of = 17 pounds! :) Yay!! so 45-17= a little bit more to lose...lol I think it'll go much faster now that I'm going back to training. I'll keep you all posted :)

I did try it some years ago, I remember getting to 6 days or so. I am an advocate foe a detox because I do believe we carry a lot of toxins in our system so in that respect a 7 to 10 cleanse is not a bad idea but I think any further then that is unhealthy. Trying to lose 45lbs. In 3 months is aggressive and may not be achieved in a matter that is healthy and sustainable. Plus that kind of rapid weight lost will keep a lot of sagging skin if you know what I mean. Start exercising 4 to 6 days a week, and not just cardio exercises do some weight/strength training exercises, mix it up. Also reduce your carbs, eliminate pasta, bread and rice and eat more nutritional carbs like fruit, veggies etc. Do some research on the healthy ones, eat every 3 to 4 hours and healthy snacks, nuts are good. And cut down on the sugar and salt...while doing the cleanse for the few days let you exercise only include a 30 minute or more walk because you don't want to be fainting. If possible try to cut out too much hormone infested foods like chicken and cow milk. Tough but this way your eating better, exercising and cleansing. I'm using P90X, hitting the gym, riding my bike and have been cutting out unhealthy foods.
