# math homework

I need help with a 6th grade math problem =) Hiking up a mountain, you notice that the air temp drops10degrees C for every 1,000 meters incresing in elevation.

Write a multiplication expression to represent the descrease in temp if you hike up the mountain 3,000 meters.

TIA girls...this is sad lol

10/1000 = x/3000

it's a question about ratios

## d1rtymart1n1

ok wait... lemme revise that - i didnt read "multiplication"

## jess143

even thought the temp drops as the evelvation increases??

## jess143

lol..ok

## d1rtymart1n1

yeah it would be if 10 degrees drops every 1000 feet--> 10/1000

then how much decrease in 3000 feet right?

so 10/1000 on left side of "="

then x/3000 ---> b/c you dont know the decrease for the 3000 feet, you only know the elevation

10/1000 = x/3000 ---> b/c you are cross multiplying to find the "x"

x=30

thank you!@

## d1rtymart1n1

no prob...

## its.nicsknack

I thought it was simply 10 x 3

10 for the amount the temp changes for every thousand feet and 3 for the "3,000" feet hiked.

I don't know...I'm much better with fractions and anything to do with a tape measure :)

Good luck :)

lol...Ive always hated word problems, I would rather solve them =) I like PEMDAS

if jess had 2,000 dollars in cash and has 5 thousand dollars available on her credit card...

how much should she spend on her dress, shoes, accessories before she has to... wait nevermind - tha'ts real life and not a math problem..

=)
