Melting Engagement Ring?

So I've been racking my brain trying to think of what to do with my original E-ring. I love it, but the main stone catches on EVERYTHING because of how tall it is and I hate not being able to wear it. I do wear it on a chain around my neck, but I want something more practical.

So I was thinking of melting it down, having it turned into a thin band and then also having the diamonds set in it to create the channel-type band that I wanted anyway.

Can I do this? Does anyone know how much it might cost?

It can definitely be done, but I don't know how much it would cost.
I'm having my ring heated, straightened, redipped and then the diamond reset by my local jeweller and its costing about $100 CAD, but they have always offered good prices for everything.

I think that's a great idea! I definitely think it can be done. I know it wasn't your style to begin with, so I think it would be great for you to have something that is! I'm not sure on a cost, though, sorry! What about having it melted into a band and have that be your wedding band then?

Faith, that's what I'm thinking :) And then putting the diamonds from the ring in the band. So that way, it's all my original ring.

I wanted to do that with my current e-ring since it isn't my style but FI flipped. I definitely think it is possible!

FI told me that the jeweler who made my ring gave him to option basically melt it down to something else if I ended up not liking the ring.  Needless to say, I LOVED what he picked, but it was nice having the option.  I think he said it would have been $250.
