Metallic Paint ~ Outrageous Request??

Is metallic paint an outrageous thing to try to find?  Can you find it in stores in the US?

Since we're considering DIY moulding/frames around our bathroom mirrors I want to test out some techniques to imitate an oil rubbed bronze, and it requires metallic bronze paint.  I've called Benjamin Moore, Lowes and Home Depot and it isn't even an option!

Would a metallic, indoor spray paint be a decent alternative?  I can test it out, but am concerned about it not going on evenly.  I might have to road trip it down to Montana...but then Mirror Mates would be the cheaper option  :\

I have used Rustoleum Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint on just about everything in our house, and I think it looks great and covers evenly. I don't really have anything super high-end, but for ordinary projects, I think it does a great job! Even DH brings home random things for me to spray paint now :-)

I would spray paint them, for sure!!  Maybe have a brush on hand just in case to touch up drips as you go. :)

Debbie, is this the type of Rust-Oleum you use?  Guess what...the stores here don't carry this specific Rust-Oleum product. Cause I do think it could be perfect.  *sigh*

Shoot!

Maybe there is still hope...my cans don't look like that (although that could just be packaging). They are...hold on, off to look at the cans.................................

One says "Rust-Oleum Metallic" and the other says "Rust-Oleum American Accents Satin Metallic". Neither one has the 360 spray, and they are just plain white cans. I do remember that there were a number of different kinds of Rust-Oleum at Lowes, and I picked one of the basic versions.

I know Martha Stewart (@ Home Depot) has some metallic paints but I'd probably try spraying since it should give it a more even and smooth cover.

Allie ~ I might have to resort to shipping from the US if I can!  We'll see how it goes :)

Debbie ~ maybe I'll stop talking to people on the phone and go into the store (maybe tonight if I can convince DH it doesn't mean we have to start the project right now.  LOL).  Rust-Oleum is fairly new to Canada, and we never seem to have the variety the US gets, but I'll still try in person.

Jennifer ~ they don't carry the Martha metallics here (yet) :(  That would be the easiest, because HD is 5 minutes from our house!
