Rach...I didn't put my SSN online. You can fill out as much or little online as you want. When you print the forms then just hand write it in. I liked it just because all the instructions and forms were all in one place. Less running around! You can even leave the forms blank and fill them in by hand yourself if you want. I entered everything except my social ang my drivers license number...

Kristeen...you still can. You'll need the certs anyway to do any changes at agencies. But this gets all the forms you need for SSN, DL, passport, voter registration, letters to credit cards, utilities, etc, fills them out, and tells you what to do, the fees that will need to be paid, etc...

Oh wow I'm so glad y'all posted about this... my marriage license got stuck at the courthouse form some stupid reason...I think I will use this to save time!

Do you have to pay 4.95 for each agency that needs your marriage license???

The site can request the certificate for you but you'll still need to pay for it. This site doesn't do the name changes for you - it only gives the forms and instructions and fills them out. You still need to take them and your certificate to SSN, DMV, passport, etc. To change your name.

Is it true you can change your name online through DMV? Rather then going in?

It's the new pictures that kill me.  I anticipated the drivers license this time, but my Costco card looks like an ugly mug shot!

Why does this need to be so darn complicated and time consuming.

Our DH's sure have the good end of this deal...we plan the whole wedding (in most cases) and then we have to do all this leg work to change our names.  Not to mention, changing my name feels like I'm changing my idenity in some weird way.  Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled to be Mrs. "M."  I just didn't realize how strange it is to no longer be Miss "K".   Sorry, I had to whine to someone...I know my DH doesn't want to hear it...LOL!

Thanks for bringing this up again.  I'll be looking into the site.

You don't need to pay for these forms or give out your info to a middle party. It seems overwhelming but it wasn't that bad at all!!! The SS office and US Passport forms can be downloaded off their websites and turned into the office with a copy of your marriage certificate or even mailed in. I changed my name on my license at the DMV (no forms needed), went to the SS office and signed the forms in front of a clerk, went to the tax collector and changed my registration and car title and then mailed off my passport the day we got back from my honeymoon.... I was done before lunch. All of 6 of my credit cards simply took a quick phone call to customer service. The only one you have to actually do in person is your driver's license, most can be called or simply faxed a copy of your marriage certificate.

California DMV

Social Security

Passport

Voter's Registration

IRS

  •  Social Security Card (in person or by mail)

  •  Drivers License (in person)
