Money Dance

How do you guys feel about the Money/Dollar Dance? I'm afraid it comes off as tacky and rude, but I know I'm always willing to give the new couple a few bucks. Or maybe I just feel guilty that my cousin gave all her money to charity and we will put it towards our home purchase.

I think it's fine - It seems more of an activity for the bride and groom to interact with their guests.

I think it depends on your culture. We see it at Filipino weddings all the time, so I don't view it as tacky. It's something fun we always expect.

I'm going to do it. I know what you mean about it being tacky, but everyone who is hispanic does it. I see it as a great one on one opportunity with your guests. I hear it's a great help!

We're on the fence about it. FI has never been to a wedding where it was done, I have though. We both see the tacky side but then again we both see at (like Claud said) as a chance to spend a little time with people! Of course, you can dub it the "Honeymoon Dance" or in your case "Home Fund Dance!"

I think it's a tradition in all cultures to help out the new couple, I just HATE asking for things, especially money, from people. But I think we'll try and do it.

we're not doing it...i'm filipino - but we're still not doin it...both my moms would roll over twice ;)

if we decide to do a dance, it will be "pin your advice/best wishes" dance and not the "dollar" dance - just to get the one-on-one time with our oot family & friends...

Were doing one, but calling it the "Honeymoon Dance" since thats been our ongoing theme for help :)

I think there is nothing wrong with them, and have never minded when I'm at other weddings as well! They have always been fun! I really think it depends on the couple, and your "status" haha

- HMM :)

I think we will do a purse or box to hold the money. No one is going near my dress with a pin! But it was quite hilarious when someone made a tail of bills at my uncles wedding and pinned it to the seat. He was a good sport and it had everyone laughing.

We don't have a money dance in our culture, but we do greet and toast with the guests at each table and collect envelopes with money in them, but it's pretty much the same concept no?

Why is something cultural deemed tacky?

In some culture the money dance is a traditional part of the wedding reception. If your friends and family are familiar or open to the idea then I don't see nothing wrong with it at all. I've gone to many weddings where they had the money dance. Everytime I go to a wedding, I always expect it and make sure I bring cash for it. I think its fun.

If it's something you want then by all means have it! I dont think it's tacky at all and in fact I will do it at my wedding too. If you think your guest may not be familiar with it then have your bridal party initiate the dance. Also have the DJ announce what is taking place.

we're doing one too and some people do think it's tacky but what filipino weddings don't have it. i think that the money dance gives guests some one on one time with the bride or groom.

Actually, people were asking us WHEN we were going to have one. LOL!

So, we squeezed one in and got $300!

But yea, calling it a Honeymoon Dance is a cute way to name it.

We're having one, but I'll have a little purse and FI will have a MAN purse, lol, no pins. I actually went to a wedding where the MOH popped out a cash register and was giving people change if they wanted to break their bill, I thought that was hilarious.
