Motivation

Where does your motivation come from? What helps you stay on track and stick to your workout goals?

I'm suffering from a lack of motivation right now... and I'm trying to find it again. What works for you girls?

this might be kind of weird but my biggest motivation is envying other women. i see other women with the body that i would love to have and it keeps me from making the wrong choices. i cut out a girl from a fitness magazine that i thought would be the perfect version of me and i put her on my fridge with a magnet so that everytime i go in the kitchen it's like "hey look at me! see how awesome i am, make sure to watch your portions and pick the good stuff" it really works for me.

or watching the movie 300, all the women in that movie are cut, i know that everyone was looking at the mens airbrushed abs but i was looking at the women and wishing that i could have that. im well on my way having lost 10 pounds so far so it must be working :)

hard one...When I see my friends around me losing weight, I get motivated.  This may sound bad but it's part inspriration, part competition! Healthy competition though!

im using my dress as my motivation to keep going, i also find it helps to make it a kind of competition with a close friend or family member. the fridge magnet is a great idea too.

When I finally get back into the swing of exercising, that "calories-burned" on the elliptical and treadmill motivate me!! I think that's why I do better at exercises machines than at dvd workouts and classes; I NEED to see the calories-burned to stay motivated.

For instance, I'll set the elliptical for 45 minutes but I feel like I want to quit after 15 minutes! So I tell myself

"okay, I can quit at 200 cals, that's pretty good"

but then I make it to 200 and think,

"that wasn't so bad, I can make it to 250"

and so on in increments of 50 cals until, at the end of the 45 minutes, I've burned 500 calories and I feel GREAT. I was never *really* going to quit before the end of the 45 minutes but, for some reason, having those little 50 cal goals throughout the workout really motivates me to keep pushing through the pain until I don't even feel it anymore. I don't do well with long-term wins (like scale-related goals) so that calories-burned number really really keeps me going!

Two things do it for me, well, two general things:

-The delight of getting smaller and being able to buy smaller clothes almost every time I go shopping (every couple of months or so, thank goodness for Ross Dress for Less!)

-I plan to splurge for new lingerie, hair, and makeup and do a b-pic shoot when I reach my goal -- JUST FOR ME.  Probably no one save for my BFF's (and a BF if I ever have one again...lol) will ever see it, but I'm still going to do it.  On the elliptical, when I want to give up, I daydream the entire experience - shopping for stuff, getting hair/makeup done, the shoot, getting the book, how I'll react).

I have a heart rate monitor that calculates how many cals i burn no matter what execise i do so that really motivates me, i am not happy unless i burn at least 300 per session.

I am a stay at home mum so i find that if i put on my workout gear as soon as i get out of bed as soon as the baby goes down for i sleep i am ready to go... oh and i have finally realised it doesn't matter if you have a bad day, don't feel guilty or beat yourself up over it just pick yourself up and do better the next day!

Only weighing yourself once a week is also good cos you see more of a result and you get less of the water fluctuations than if you weigh every day

Honestly what pushes me is when I notice results in others..it makes me work out harder.  It also motivates me more when I fit in my clothes better.  It's working!

I've completely lost my motivation.  I haven't worked out once this week, have slowly started eating carbs again, and don't really care what I eat =(  This is horrible.  I'm hoping to get back on track next week.

Usually, my motivation comes when I'm working out.  I envision what I want to look like in my wedding dress and how I don't want my arms to look in pictures and how I really don't want any backfat coming over the tops of my dress and how I want to look ubber sexy on wedding night.  But still.. I have lost motivation.
