My husband has decided to get out of the military this up coming april and take a job offer in virginia, i am a little upset because the military is a great place to be when the aconomy is so bad and pluse the benefits (health, dental,etc..)are amazing but the deployments...not so much but they are managable.. well anyway we are moving to charlottesville, Virginia next may and i was just wondering if any of my PW girls live there or have lived there and what its like? i have never been there so i am a little scared on how its going to go... well to be honest i am a little scared about everything, getting out, making new friends, finding a new job....(tear) : (   .

thanks for taking the time to read my story : )

My BFs brother lives in Charlottesville.  I haven't been there yet but next summer we are planning a trip to visit her brother and go tubing down a river (with 2 beer coolers) and then hit up the wineries the next day.  That's all I know about Charlottesville but that's enough for me to know that I would like it!  hahaha.

Seriously though, I moved from OH to NC four years ago and I was scared like you and it turned out to be the best decision of my life.  I was single then too so at least you have someone to get out and do things with.  Plus it's not that far from NC and it may even be closer to IN so you can go "home" when/if you get homesick.

We live in Norfolk VA, which is a few hours from Charlottesville.  You won't be too far from Massanutten which is a really nice resort (closer to JMU).  You also won't be that far from us and Williamsburg (Busch Gardens, Water Country), Virginia Beach which can is really nice in the summer.

Take advantage of football country over there if you and your fiance like football :)

I live probably about 2 hours away. Charlottesville is Beautiful. Its in the Mountains with gorgeous views. It has UVA which is a very beautiful historical University. It has Monticello ( Thomas Jefferson's Home) which is beautiful especially in the spring with all the Tulips. It has some wineries. Like Poppyaka said it is near Massanutten which has many attraction.

I would be scared moving to different place too, But Charlottesville is a great place. PM me if you want to know anything else. I will try my best.

I live in Northern VA...and I've visted Charlottesville before to see Monticello, some inns', orchards and take in the country. It was very pretty when I visited and I haven't had a chance to go back. VA is quite open to doing a lot of things. I'm originally from California (Southern) and moving to VA was a shock but I've come to love this part of the state. You will be pretty central to everything.

I'd go online and do a bit of research about the area, things to do, visiting other parts (vineyards, VA beach, Shenendoah Valley, Williamsburg, Bush Gardens, Richmond etc.)

Hopefully you will have a great move and enjoy the state. VA is a great state for staycations and not once since I've lived here, have I been "bored" :)

Hi Heather! You guys are moving from N. Carolina to Virginia? We just moved from Ohio to Northern Virginia at the beginning of the year. I haven't been to Charlottesville yet but I hear it's beautiful.

I'm here to assure you that this move will be positive! Virginia is gorgeous. It's so lush and vibrant and colorful. I fell in love with trees since we moved here. We moved here so FI could take a job promotion and it's the best thing we ever did. It's so different but in all good ways. I got a new job, we learned our way around and made new friends.

We drive back to Dayton/Cincinnati every few months to see friends and now to plan our wedding in Cincy. The drive into Maryland and Virginia is so beautiful.

Just try to embrace the move with open arms and find out all the new exciting experiences it can give you. :)
