I love the idea of having live music at the ceremony. Maybe an acoustic guitar would be nice because it's casual but very romantic.

We've hired a jazz guitar/flute duo to play our beach ceremony and cocktail hour. When we move inside for dinner, we'll do mix CDs we're making (we don't have an iPod, but our venue has a 5CD Changer and Sound System we can use free of charge.)

I always prefer live music to recorded for weddings, but that is the professional musician in me. I think guitar, harp, strings, or flute (or combo thereof) is beautiful outdoors. If you need referrals for musicians to hire in the SFBay, let me know...I know several.

Were flying our 7 piece reggae, ska, funk band down...Spiritual Rez (check them out on myspace, they kick ass...So much better seeing them live though). I'm friends with the lead singer?s brother so they said they would play for free as long as we get them to Jamaica =). Were probably going to do an ipod while people are eating and then have a concert after next to a bon fire on the beach. I think that kind of party would be so down to earth and fun =)

If I were you I would try to get live music. I know that isn't easy when having a DW. See if you can find some bands online and ask them to send you a demo. Ask the people at the hotel if they recommend anyone. Fuse in some local flavor =o).

there are a couple songs in the movie "50 first Dates" (Drew Barrymore, Adam Sandler, set in Hawaii) which are super cute and have a fun tropical feel... There's a version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"that is awesome... just did an iTunes search though and it's not on the soundtrack but i did find it... ;)

We were married on the beach and we had my husband's uncles play guitar. People loved it. The best piece of advice I can give you about a wedding on the beach is: make sure you have an adequate sound system. We spoke to multiple people (including several folks who do TV/movie sound for beach sets) and they warned us: don't underestimate how loud you need your sound to be on the beach. The air, ocean, birds, traffic, etc. can all be super loud and one of the most annoying things for guests is when they can't hear what's being said. We hired our reception DJ to provide the sound for the beach for not much extra $$. Meg (www.lapartieevents.com)

If I was getting married on the beach I would have steal drums play. I was walking by the Ferry Building in SF and almost asked some street performers to play my wedding. They were so fun, but FI reeled me back in.

iPod would be easier (and I agree with tahoegirl, the soundtrack has lots of good island-ish songs and Israel Kamakawiwo'ole is one of the most popular Hawaiian artists who's pretty laid back and has many hawaiian language tracks) - but sound-wise, a live band/artist might be better. Unless the beach you're having it at is fairly secluded and the sound would carry well from a regular audio system.

We're having a guitarist play at the beach ceremony. The musician comes with our package though.
