my DIY damask votives!

thanks to soon2Bmrsjaramillo, I was able to DIY these votives.  I used her template (which worked perfectly, by the way - i ordered votives from the same place she suggusted www.candles4less.com), but changed the damask pattern to match the one we're using everywhere else.

they were super easy to make.  i had the vellum printed at staples for about $5, then cut and used double-sided tape.

one thing i'm concerned about - will the heat from the candles make the glue liquidy and result in the vellum coming off?  has anyone tried these?

thanks to soon2Bmrsjaramillo I photo 78117-1

Whoo-Hooo!  Yay!

OMG they look so good!!!  I'm glad it all came out awesome!

I burned one for about an hour and everything seemed to hold up pretty well - I haven't given it the full burn test... probably should do that just to see.  :)

Thanks everyone!  We're really happy with them.  Mrs. J - thank you SO MUCH for sending me the template!  It was so easy to use (I just swapped the pattern for the one we're using).

I just stuck a tiny piece of tape on each of the edges just in case.  Our wedding isn't until November and I don't want to open them up the day before the wedding and find out that the tape has dried out and they've all come apart, etc. :)

Yeah hear ya on the "don't want it to not work out at the last minute" (I'm still over 9 months out LOL)!

I've had some of mine finished for a few weeks (months?) now - and they have held up really well.  Where we live is REALLY dry, like zero humidity most of the time - so I was concerned about the adhesive quality too - but it seems to be fine!

Did you get "newspaper fingers" when putting them on?  I'm curious to find the diff between inkjet vs. laserjet on vellum.  Some girls I emailed were having a terrible time getting their home printers to accept vellum paper - but if you had Staples do it then I guess any copy center could do it!

Nope, no newspaper fingers for me!  It was well worth it to have staples do it.  Super cheap and they came out perfectly.  I think it's because their printers actually heat the toner, unline inkjets.  We were planning on printing them ourselves, but decided to take them in since we had some other stuff to do anyway.

Now that I think about it, I don't think we actually used double-sided tape.  I bought these things that look like the white-out sliders, but they had glue in them.  They acted like double sided tape, but you had to hold it for a second for it to really stick.  That's why I was worried.  I think they'll be great though.

It was GREAT!  it would be perfect for envelope liners.  Super easy to use, and there is actually a ton of glue on each one.  They come in a 2-pack, and I used 1 full one, and just a few swipes of the second one on all 144 votives (with 3 swipes/votive).
