Name Changing?

Hi, everyone!

I know that the whole "changing your last name" thing is a huge debate at any age, but I was curious about whether 30-something brides are perhaps less-likely to change their names than younger brides? I figure there might be more reasons for us to keep our names, whether it's professionally, maybe if you've already changed your name with a previous marriage, or just plain "I've had it for 30 years, why should I change it now?" =)

Personally, I am not going to be changing my last name. I have quite a few reasons for it. But when I was in my early- to mid-20s with a previous long-term boyfriend, I had fully intended to change my name to his when I thought about it.

It's hard for me to say whether I changed my mind because I "grew up," or if it's because of another reason -- my ex-bf was hispanic while my fiance is white, I've been in my career and earning my reputation now for 8 years instead of 2 or 3, I've given it more serious thought now that I'm actually engaged, etc.

So I'm curious to hear from you ladies!

I'll be changing mine.  I love my last name and people tell me that it sounds so pretty (after they learn how to pronounce it right ;)).  But I also love FI's last name too.

I'll be attempting to keep my last name, as a middle name (and I don't have a middle name, so it can work) and taking my FI last name.  Only thing... doesn't really flow -- Italian and Irish side by side! LOL

I'm with starbux, pretty much everything but our names!  LOL!  I'm going back and forth about my current middle name, whether to keep it or not...but I agree that maybe if I were in my 20's I wouldn't be thinking twice about it.  I love my last name and it's important to me to keep it somehow!  :)

I plan to add to my last name. I considered making it my middle name, but I like my middle name. I want to hold on to the history of my current surname. I think that as long as FI's name is on the end, that is all that matters. As an older bride I do think that we have more to consider than a younger bride without as much financial, personal, business history, but hey to each their own.

I love my father but I have never ever been close to his family. I'm changing my name to my husbands as soon as I can for that very reason! Not anything against my father at all whatsoever but why stay with a last name that has brought me so much pain in my life. His family has always treated my father's children horribly and If I would have been able to chang my name sooner I would have.. I just didn't want to hurt my dad!

I will proud to be a Luther because I love my fiance's family very much!

I will be changing my last name but a friend of mine who did not has a humorous way of explaining to people why she chose not to --> I'm getting married, not adopted :)

I didn't change mine, and I knew when I was a little girl that I wouldn't. It just never seemed romantic to me ever since I learned the history of name changing and how it showed a change in possession. My husband wishes that I would, and my in-laws were pretty nasty about it (MIL actually said that I didn't love her son enough to change it, among other comments), but it's really just my decision. I said to my DH, if you fell in love with Lauren W----, why can't you be married to Lauren W----?

i am pretty traditional, so i will be changing my name to his.  i would never drop my current middle name cause it is a family name that means a lot to me, so my current last name will go.
