I love them as well, but i read somewhere that they can be $12 a stem. I'm using a combination of those and hydrangeas.

They are peonies. My FMIL is a wholesale florist at the SF Flower Market and these are the most expensive flowers you can get at market. Even at wholesale they are crazy in price... something to think about if you are on a budget.

i've seen cabbage roses in a bouquet.. they kinda remind me of peonies.. if those are too expensive, maybe those can be an alternative.. but i believe they are peonies as well. one of my faves =)

thanks everyone for confirming they are peonies!
now i need to decide between calli lilies and peonies. i dont think they go so well *together* but if you have come across any bouquets that combine the 2, can you please share?

just fyi- I love peonies and checked them out for a summer wedding. They are not in season in summer (making them even more expensive) but something that 2 florists recommended was GARDEN roses - not regular, commercial green house roses- but garden roses. They bloom, unfold and look a lot like peonies

thanks for the suggestion. our wedding is in hawaii so i would also need to check on the availability of peonies in Maui.
