Need help with catering tip
Need some help with figuring out my catering tip.
I've learned through some online sources and books that I tip the staff and not the company or boss.
It is supposed to be 15-20% or $1-$2 per person. When I do that math it's about a $300 dollar difference.
Here's the details though... This company has not been good at emailing me back. It takes at least four days to get something and sometimes even a week.
They forgot to invited us to their mass cake tasting. So we got one cake to try and if we wanted another we had to pay for it.
The extra linens for the DJ, Guestbook table, gift table, weren't included and I didn't know this until I actually picked the linens. The main workup he gave us said, linens:$3p/p. So that was an extra $100 for table cloths.
85% or more of the time I tried to call via telephone, the voicemail box was full and I didn't even get a callback from him seeing a missed call.
He had a snooty tone in an email saying that my payment was late. Well, if he had answered my phone call he would have known that he forgot to attach the new total with the linens and cake. So I had to add up my own final payment. That's pretty ridiuclous.
The cake says: included. I got cupcakes for 150ppl and it cost $60 extra... but I never knew how much they charged in the first place for it to be included.
The food was very good at the tasting. He was very nice when we met him for the tasting and for the meeting to go over the contract.
I'm thinking of doing the 1-2$ per person tip for it since the service wasn't amazing... does that seem too cheap? That would be between $162 and $324. I think its cheap but then I also have the mindset that tips are for people who do well....
any thoughts are appreciated!
