Need ideas to dress up outdoor ceremony

It's in a redwood grove, so candles are out. Plus it's in the afternoon, so they probably wouldn't show up anyway. I am most interested in how to make the hard wooden stadium style seating more comfotable. Buying a bunch of pillows and blankets is really outside my budget. Being cold isn't really an issue, it's more comfort. But I also need ideas to dress up the area. No elctricty, no flower petals, Help!

I have a bunch of pics on my bio for an outdoor ceremony.  You can check it out if you like.  I think I have one in there that doesn't have pedals.

or u can use those ideas, minus the pedals.  It will still look great!!

In the above wedding we strung ivory chiffon in the tree branches to "dress up" her (my cousin) ceremony location...also draped the chiffon from shepherds hooks to create an aisle...ferns are a great "green" dress-up for outdoor ceremonies

For the benches, I wouldn't worry about making them soft and super comfie, unless you're ceremony will be long.. if it's only going to be 20-40 min, i don't think it will be bad!  You can get bench cushions for $45-100, some that are 4' long.. expensive but doable. :)

Thanks all for the beautiful ideas. I cant stick anything in the ground, but I could do solid base shepards hooks. I also cant hang lanterns n the trees, but they might let me tie chiffon around smaller branches as long as I take it all down.

also---> how about maybe 3 or 4 windchimes hanging from the trees???  not too many - but just enough to add a little tranquility and soothing sounds?

What about using some table cloths or material for the seats? Could you possibly ask guests to bring a towel or blanket to sit on?

Other "woodsy theme" wedding decor:

Taller logs topped with flowers for your aisles or alter area,  shepherd hooks with hanging aluminum pots filled with wild flowers, pine cones adorned with ribbons in your wedding colors, mason jars with fake candles.

Google search woodsy wedding ideas and you'll find a ton of stuff. I just quickly googled a few pictures of Big Sur weddings and a lot of great ideas pooped up just from an image search.

Good luck!

I also love the idea of colored aisle runners (Kirsteen has the link) or you can use them for other things to, liek down the stadium, etc.

You can do flowers in pails and place them next to the rows of benches, also. Will they let you do an aisle runner?

I wouldn't worry about the seating, since cushions are outside of your budget. It is what it is. In fact, I would embrace the natural beauty of your location and not try "compete" with it. Hopefully, the ceremony won't be that long, and people should be able to deal with the seating for a short time.

Is this your venue? The mather redwood grove?

The first one that HMM posted is my venue...we arent a loud to have fire ( i dont think) so I am going to do the LED tea lights from above... and I want to do white pillows (but too expensive!) soo I dunno yet what we will do! BUt lots of rose petals thats for sure...  And where they have their arch, i want the shepard hooks along there with red pomanders, and lanterns....

If this is ur venue....ur can do the stadium seats (and they can double up as the wedding favors)... oorr... maybe some hooks semi- circled behind the minister with pomanders or handing vases with flowers in them...maybe along the bottom where the people are sitting, have those really big lanterns on the floor (clearly with nothing in them...) Im just throwing out some ideas!

here is another pic of a diff wedding at my venue... they used white mats of some sort...HTH some!
