Never Thought Marriage Was For Me...But God Had A Different Plan For Me!!!
Never in a million years did I think marriage was for me. I know that many little girls dream about their "Big" day, but not me. I guess I was too busy being a tomboy and it didn't help I grew up and was around males most of my life. I use to cringe at the thought of being married or what I use to refer to as the "M" word. Even when I use to date, anytime a guy would get too serious and it looked as if our relationship was headed in the direction or marriage, I would call it quits. I don't know I had wonderful examples, in my family, on marriages with longevity. My grandparents over 60 years, great aunt & uncle over 65 years, even my parents who are still married. This year will be 43 years for them and they met in March 1970 and married November 1970.
Well as the years went by, completing college, grad school, joining the military, being deployed, working on a task force, and been traveling since the age of 3 in and out of the country. My life has been interesting, as well as adventurous needless to say. Well this past year 2012 I had been planning a trip to S. Africa to take in July. As I was preparing for this trip, family and friends were telling me that I was going to meet my soul mate...my King while in Africa. I just laughed and thought they were crazy. July 2012 arrived and I was on my way. I arrived in South Africa and my journey began. I went there in a group. The group was split while traveling. Half of us was on one flight and the other half was on another flight. Needless to say I didn't know my soul mate would be on that other flight.
It was the that 4th day, of my trip, or should I say our trip, when our journey began. While heading to our third location, the Kapama River Lodge, we stopped at a convenient store. My future was standing with a bottle of water in his hand, when I went up behind him and snatched the water out of his hand (I had to make the first move...he was moving too slow lol). That snatch opened the door for us to get to know each other better. We went on a couple of Safaris, sat in the back of the jeep and just talked. One day while the rest of our group went out for another safari, Jimmie and I stayed at the lodge and talked for hours. That's when I knew I would spend the rest of my life with him...that and when he asked me if I could see myself being a "First Lady" lol!
That trip was July 2012, he proposed October 2012 and we are scheduled to be married July 2013. I'm 37, never been married and I don't have any kids. My advice to others is never let anyone else dictate or control your life. That's the mistake many of my cousins made. When I finally decided that I did want someone in my life that understood me, would not only be my best friend but someone who knew how to not only pray for me, but with me...I asked God that He would send that man my way. There are some changes I made in my life, along with being patient and being obedient to God's will and way. Do no let your age control the tempo of major life changing decisions :) Our timing is not always God's timing!!!
