New Name, New Business Cards

Okay, here's a question: I'm taking my FI's last name and changing my middle name to my current last name (my maiden name). So if my name was currently Jane Jill Doe, my new name would be Jane Doe Jones. I've been working professionally for eight years as "Jane Doe" and so of course have a lot of contacts in my industry who know me by that name - does it make any sense to have my new business cards read "Jane Doe Jones" instead of just "Jane Jones"? Nobody really uses their middle names in my industry, but then again, they're mostly men. What do you ladies think? Anybody else considering this dilemma?

Aching....I'm having the exact same dilemma! I've considered hyphenating my name. I don't think my FI is all that crazy about that idea. Not only do all my contacts in the industry know me as my maiden name, but the name of my business ties in with my maiden name. All the logos and what not have to do with the initials of my name and business name. I don't know what to do.

The middle name thing is a really good idea. Its the best compromise I've heard of :) I say go for it!

people should recognize your new name since your former last name is still included

mine is hypenated to make life simpler but my new last name is super long.

AIMEE XXXXXXXX-XXXXXX last name has 14 characters and i get very annoyed when they put space instead of hypen ;)

My best friend made her maiden name her middle name and all her business cards/transactions now have her full name (first middle and last) on it. I don't think it would be strange at all. And it would allow you to take your FI's new last name while at the same time allowing you to maintain recognition with your business contacts!

I think that's a really good idea. I'm planning on hyphenating mine so if I were still working I would put "maiden name-married name" even if I only use my married name colloquially. Even if its your middle name, if you've already built a "brand" with your maiden name, you don't want to lose that effort.

I knew someone who's business card said Charles James IV even though he went by CJ and it was never confusing to anyone.
