New to this.....

Ok so my buddy http://www.projectwedding.com/biography/list/clipscomb1987 has been trying to get me to do this since before my wedding (which was 6 months ago lol) I honestly am a little aprehensive because I'm not a very 'out there' kind of person and this is all a bit overwhelming. But I have been reading all these posts all night and I figured you who I am as much as I know who all of you are so whats the harm. clipscomb is one of the only people I have confided in so it will be nice to have some other people to talk to once I get used to all of this. I am going to try to use the right abbrivations but bear with me =)

The DH and I were married 05.21.11 so a little over 6 months ago....we had not been together for long but had been friends for about 3 years and there never was and still isn't a question that I could ever imagine living my life with anyone else. He is my rock (as cliche as that sounds) We knew we were going to have issues as I have never had a regular AF, on average about 2 to 3 times a year since I was 14. I have never been on BC so we were taking precations at first but last December we decided to just stop and see what would happen. As I expected a whole lot of nothing. After we were married in July we decided we would see a specialist. We went to the center. I have a mild case of PSOS and we then found out the DH has a low SA (after 3 low tests) so that was one more blow. I always knew I would have issues and then it was just confirmed to be even more of an up hill battle. I had mutiple tests including biopsys, dye test, ultra sound etc. I had 3 rounds of progesterone with no O or AF. The Dr advised me that our only viable option with hope is IVF. Our insurance covers 3 tries so trying to hold out hope but I'm not the most optimistic person. I decided I wanted to try to get down to a healthy weight (loosing 50-60lbs) before we atempt IVF. So I started weight watchers about two months ago and am up to a little over 15lbs. I am about to go this week and join a gym so I can start a little more serious. We are hoping to start IVF in June/July-ish of next year.

I guess that is all I can think about at the moment =)

Welcome MrsB!  Did your doc put you on metformin for the pcos?  I ask because I really think that's helped me tremendously.  You see, I have pcos too.  I found out in August and my Endocrinologist put me on Metformin extended release.  In the past 3 months, I've lost 48 pounds, have gotten my hormone levels back to completely normal, normalized my blood pressure, am lowering my bad cholesterol and raising my good cholesterol, and finally started ovulating on my own.  I'd not ovulated for at least 17 months prior to that.  I've also lowered my insulin resistance quite a bit!

I think your idea to lose weight is a great one.  Have you thought about what kind of diet you'll be doing?  I found that a low GI diet is really working well for me.

I hope that IVF works it's magic for you and that you get a healthy LO soon!

My RE talked to me about metformin but my insulin resistance in normal so he said it was a toss up. Ironicly I hate taking medicince so anything I don't need I'm not going to take at least so early in the process. I am doing weight watchers now and it seems to be working nicely for me. I can attribute all of my weight gain/high weight to poor diet and inactivity. I was working odd shifts at work and just not taking care of myself. The doctor talked to me about my weight and said we could go ahead now but even for people without issues weight can be one. I just don't want to wonder if it doesn't work if it was because I didn't loose weight.

Welcome MrsB. Sorry for the delayed welcome! I'm sorry that you are having trouble conceiving. I, too, have PCOS (and other issues) and my husband has low testosterone and other crappy sperm numbers so I feel like we are in the same boat! Have you tried IUI or has your doctor talked to you about it? It is way less invasive than IVF and has worked very well for girls with PCOS and DH's with sperm issues. We are in the process of IUI now... Congrats on losing 15 lbs! That is awesome!!! Hope that that is just the ticket to get your body re-adjusted!

We have talked about a second opinion. The reason we were given that IUI was not a viable option was the fact that all the drugs they tried to induce O were not working. They said IUI would not work unless an egg was being released. And the fact that DH has low SA doesnt help either =( There is another center near us we are considering looking into as well as long as our insurance is accepted. We have decent jobs but not that decent! lol

Do you mind me asking which drugs they tried? I know for a lot of people that it takes a bunch of trial/error to figure out the right combo. It is so wonderful that your insurance covers so many tries of IVF but as Tami said it is really invasive/emotionally taxing. Perhaps a second opinion might suggest a different drug protocol first
