New Trend: Tree Planting Ceremony

Instead of a Unity Candle or Sand Ceremony, why not plant a tree?

Instead of a Unity photo 1208670-1

Have a small tree in a pot, and then have the bride and groom both add soil.

I found part of a ceremony script someone used here.

And just like the tree that they are planting, marriage requires constant nurturing and nourishment. As they provide the sun, soil, and water for this tree, they will provide the encouragement, trust, and love needed on a daily basis to consciously nurture and nourish their connection to each other.

[Sara will hand her bouquet to Brent to hold. Jamie will bring forth the watering can, hand it to Sara, and return to her spot; Brian will hand the sapling to Matt and return to his spot; Mike will hand the pot with soil to Sara and she will hold it while Matt plants the seedling; Mike will hand the napkin to Matt to wipe off his hands; Sara will water the seedling and set the watering can down behind her.]

Oh, that's really cute, actually.  Especially for an outdoor ceremony.

Aw that is very sweet. I wish we could do something like this but we can't because how on earth would we get it back from the DW?!

I think it could work anywhere.  If you use a seedling instead of a larger tree, it wouldn't be messy.

Very cute idea!  Especially if planning on buying a house together, it'd be really cute to put it in the backyard.

I love this!  hmmm...maybe I'll do this instead of a sand ceremony.  The only thing is that I do not have a green thumb to save my life and how bummed would I be if it died?!

I'm a plant killer (ha!) so I'd be too scared to do this because I KNOW it would die and that would suck considering what the plant is supposed to represent....

We did something similar with a plant rather than a tree. Instead of putting soil in it, we watered the plant instead with pretty watering cans. My parents have planted the plant outside their home since we're not having a house for a while yet. Oh, and we did this in a church ceremony, so I think it works for something other than an outdoor ceremony.
