NFP and other natural concetrace

Ok guess this section of the forum doesn't get a lot of traffic so I will post again in a fresh thread. FI and I are both virgins, I'm turning 30 in a week and he's 31. We do want children and considering our ages (mainly mine) I assume we will TTC within 2 years. That being said I have never liked the idea of hormonal BC and "inserts" kind of sceeve me out. So the options we are looking at are a.) condoms, b.) I've considered using the sponge and c.) natural family planning which consist of charting and temp reading and erm mucus reading. I've also read about a machine called the lady comp? Anyone have experience with this?

so basically what it comes down to is I have about 4 months till my wedding night. Is this enough time to learn my charts and body? Should I spend the money on the lady comp. most reviews for it are really good but I haven't found many American reviews for it.

Any advice for me? I am planning on ordering a book recommended on various forums and probably going to pick up a basal thermoter just to start the charting process. I'm just a little leery simply cause there's no way to "test" if it works. So advice would be greatly appreciated!

I was on the Pill when we got married, and went off it last October. I started FAM (Fertility Awareness Method, basically the same as NFP) right away and used it to avoid pregnancy until we decided to TTC in February of this year (now 27 weeks pregnant!). I found it to be really easy, and loved that it was natural and helped me learn way more about my body. I highly recommend reading "Taking Charge of Your Fertility"! It is incredibly helpful and informative! I actually need to start reading it again to figure out how we will TTA after baby is born, since I don't ever want to take hormonal BC again. :) Hope this helps!

I think that if you are not comfortable with hormonal BC then you should probably use condoms in addition to NFP. That way you  can learn about your body but not take any risks you do not want until you are ready for it. I haven't looked at the research in awhile (my  dad was sex ed teacher so I know all about this stuff lol) but the percentage of unintended pregnancy from NFP and the "rhythm method" are quite high, and yes condoms can break but this way you will have good idea of your cycle in addition to some  BC.

That's just IMO, I'm on the implant and I love it. I use an app to keep track of my cycle just because that's good to know, but I don't have to think about anything this way, and I don't want kids so I'm good for 10 years!
