No photographer - send me your pics??

I just heard on the radio some guy talking about a wedding he went to where they left out little signs encouraging everyone to take a ton of pictures and email them to the couple because they weren't having a photographer. That sounds like a nightmare to me , but what do you think? I can see doing this in ADDITION to a regular photographer, but not instead of!

True but you had a very intimate wedding. I don't know it would work with a huge wedding, maybe! Do you think some ppl would be annoyed?

I'm not sure, I suppose it depends on who is there. Even if we had had a larger wedding I know that people would have been ok just because of the type of people they are but if it had been my SIL's wedding there may have been a riot!!!!

I don't think people would really mind per say! Some of my friends and family love taking pictures! I just think as the bride and groom, you might not get any of the pics you actually want though! I understand if you really don't have the money, but I would try to save specifically for a good photog!! Tough call.

I think I would try to find a friend or family member that I could throw a few hundred bucks to for pictures.  I don't photograph well as it is so I think on a special day like that I would want a professional or at least someone I could try and work something out with.  I agree with Sammy_D that in addition too would be fine but not the only resource.

Just my opinion though.

Oh wow, I would cry if I didn't have a photographer. Pictures are worth a thousand words.

Ive been married before and never had a prof phogographer so this time its the most expensive thing about our wedding. I will make sure I get all the shots we want. This is a no regret day for us.

I can't imagine not having a professional photographer at my wedding. So much time and money is going to go into my wedding and I want beautiful pictures to capture this day forever.

I would try and find someone who would take pictures for me. Then atleast I would get some nice photos hopefully.

I think for most of us this is the only time in our lives that we get to play model for the camera and if that's something that is important to you, then it's worth the expense of someone who will do a really good job and is there exclusively to get everything you want. Plus, a professional will know the right angles, lighting, framing, etc, and can EDIT :)

I used the app "weddingparty" and put out little ispy cards to make a game out of it.  my intent was to get alot of pictures from our guests the photographer may not have captured of our guests.... it was a fail. no one used the cards and only 2 people used the app.  im wondering if the cards were more strategically placed if people would have taken advantage of it more.  I do know when i went to a friends wedding a few years back she had the disposable cameras on the table and everyone took advantage of those.  I am a glad we had a prof photographer and would hire her again in a second.

i totally would NOT do that.  i can give you a unique perspective.  my parents eloped.  they do not have a single photo from the day they married.  several months later they went to visit their famalies up in Ohio and Indiana (they were living in Florida) and my mom's childhood church threw them a wedding reception.  basically cake and punch. we have 3 photos from that reception and those are the only wedding related photos we have.  i always knew i wanted to make sure my wedding day was documented, not just for myself, but for my future kids.  having guests post pics they take online to a sight or app is a great addition to professional photos, but no substitution.  just because most people have camera phones, doesn't mean everyone will be taking photos.

Ohh interesting post. I remember years back (before cell phones/facebook, even good digital cameras) my cousin did not get a photographer, instead she put dispoable camera on every table. It was a great diea in theory, until she spent a ton of money developing shotty pictures of a bunch of people taking photos she's was OK with not having to sort through. She did end up with some really nice ones, but there were a lot of great moments missed (plus the quality on these disposables were not the best).

That said, today is a different day with million megapixle digital cameras and some guests with a great eye for photography. If I were to do this I would make sure that my Aunt with her super fancy camera was ready to snap some important parts (the big I Do, first kiss, first dance, cakse smash, etc.)

Like I said, she did get some great shots and it was what they could afford, but she did regret not having specific pictures taken at certain times.

The idea of the cameras on the table is neat in theory, but I'd be afraid some little kids would get a hold of them and you  would end up with an entire roll of shots of the floor and stuff, and you would have wasted money to develop them!

It's a great idea for those who are tight on budget.  It's also great to see other perspectives of the big day.  However, I believe hiring a professional is something to splurge on.  I want my guests to come, relax, and enjoy themselves.  And I wouldn't want to worry on those who don't give you the photos taken... I'm still waiting on photos from someone and I was married three years ago! :)

We hired a professional photography company Borrowed Blue...they were great.  For me I just could not cut back funds to not have a photographer, I really wanted to get the getting ready photos as well as the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception photos.  I think it turned out very well with both photographers there to capture everything.

The photographer I'm hiring is going to do my wedding photos for $550. I couldn't pass that up and she's great. She goes to my church so she gave me the 50% off discount from her regular prices. If you know someone personally that takes good pictures and has a good eye for that kind of thing, I'd so go ahead and ask if they'd be willing to do that for you! But if you don't, I would say to splurge a little... You don't want to end up with surprises and a bunch of pictures that you really don't like! (:
